How many Catholics truly live by the church’s teachings on not using birth control? I feel like the last guy in America who does. At least that’s what everyone tells me.

It’s a low percentage, but we’re out here! Stick with it – you’re doing the right thing!!!

My wife and I follow the Church’s teachings on BC. We even live on one income (and a teacher’s salary, at that!)… and I couldn’t be happier.

Pills are used to cure disease and sickness. Being a woman is neither a disease nor a sickness.

Well, I am single, so I have no opportunity but I have always strongly told others to give up BC. 🙂

So I admire happily those who do so as they should! 🙂

There are more than you realize but many less than one would hope.

It’s particularly troublesome when your wife uses BC and you don’t believe in it.

And neither is pregnancy… but we are brainwashed into thinking that children in the womb are not babies or for that not even Human and that we need a “medical” procedure to “cure” us of “it”

Well I tell you that the only thing we need curing of is our own selfishness!!! and trying to blame others for it… take respondsibility and grow up! (Dismounting my soapbox now)

My husband isn’t Catholic, is actually agnostic at this time and we have started following the Church’s teachings on BC because it is so important to me. So there are even guys in America who aren’t Catholic who are following the Church’s teachings. 🙂

Well, as someone who took BC for a year and a half as a LAST RESORT to a health problem, I will share my story. My husband and I, who were engaged at the time, sought the advice of three priest. We did were very careful about having intercourse, and just didn’t do the “act” all that much while we were married and I was on BC. Or, for me, hormone regulation.

(Last week, the lady in front of me at the pharmacy purchased Plan B. I nearly cried. We prayed for her and her baby. )

I agree with everyone here, Birth Control/Natural Family Planning are very evil under any circumstances

We do this, my husband and I. We are both completely in favor of the Church’s teachings, and we have the five children to prove it. 😉

I thought this quote was pertinent:

“The Church understands human love far better and more profoundly than modern man, who thinks he knows all about it. The Church knows well that to frustrate the creative purpose of human generation is to confess a love that is insincere. It is insincere because it is less than human, even less than animal. Love that seeks only to enjoy and not to create is not even a shadow of love. It has no power. The psychological impotence of our enraged generation must be traced to the overwhelming accusation of insincerity which every man and woman has to confront, in the depths of his own soul, when he seeks to love merely for his own pleasure. A love that fears to have children for any motive whatever is a love that fears love. It is divided against itself. It is a lie and contradiction. The very nature of love demands that its own creative fulfillment should be sought in spite of every obstacle. Love, even human love, is stronger than death. Therefore, it is even more obvious that true love is stronger than poverty or hunger or anguish. And yet the men of our time do not love with enough courage to risk even discomfort or inconvenience.”

I don’t and won’t ever use artificial birth control.

I didn’t think Natural Family Planning was a bad thing. In fact, I thought it was encouraged as opposed to birth control. It doesn’t use anything artificial to prevent a pregnancy and its my understanding that its practiced with the acceptance of a pregnancy should it happen inspite of efforts to space pregnancies apart.

I think its a good thing for women to know their cycles. If anything should be out of the norm, then its all the sooner that we know to seek medical care. Not only can we judge by our cycles when we are least likely to become pregnant, we also are able to judge by our cycles when we are most likely to become pregnant. So we can use NFP in both ways.

I admire the couples with 4+ kids because odds are they don’t use BC. I also admire those who have sustained from premarital sex. I was one of those who abstained and I sought out the same in a wife. Fast forward through the wedding, two kids, and some marital difficulties, my views against BC have strenghtened while my wife’s views seem to have gone the other way. Has anyone else faced this marital dilemma? We have daughter 11 and son 10 and it worries me to think that I’ll be teaching the kids that living with someone before marriage is wrong and premarital sex is wrong and BC is wrong but my wife will be advocating a more permissive view.

Hubby and I use NFP, as do many other couples on CAF. You are not alone in following Church teachings.

We should start a club. My husband is actually atheist and follows the Church’s teaching. 👍

Be careful. There are many, many small families fully in line with Catholic teaching, yet have one or two children. There may be a problem with fertility or like me, shouldn’t have more children.

Hi Walter,

You are not alone! My husband and I welcomed our honeymoon baby 6 months ago. When we married, everyone, from parents to co-workers, insisted we not have a baby right away but take time to enjoy ourselves. I think so many people voiced their opinion b/c they knew we were practicing Catholics who take our Faith seriously. Anyway, we didn’t believe we had any grave reason to avoid pregnancy, so we didn’t practice NFP, and everyday we look at our son growing, we feel blessed to have been granted the Grace to listen to Our Lord rather than the world or our own selfish/materialistic worries.

My husband joined the military shortly after our wedding and we moved across the country one month before my due date! Now, we are thinking about spacing our children two years apart, but each day, we ask ourselves “Should we really avoid conceiving another child at this time? If so, why?” My fertility returned sooner than most exclusively breastfeeding mothers, so we pray and discern that question each day.

We are praying for a large family, so we might give Jr. a brother or sister before he’s two years-old! 😛

Children are an awesome blessing from God and He wants us to welcome them into our world and help build up His Kingdom here on earth and for all Eternity.

I’m grateful to have a husband who shares our Faith. He truly is my helpmeet. I pray for all of you who suffer the difficulty of having a spouse who does not share our Faith or seems to be slipping away. God bless those spouses who are not of the Faith but respect their spouse’s wish to not use BC.

Just a side note: All BC, excluding condoms, are abortificants.
