I just returned to the Catholic Church after 10 years of having no faith at all.

During the time I wasn’t going, I got married, had 2 children, and then had my tubes tied. What am I supposed to do now? I can’t afford to have it reversed. This has been very troubling to me and I’m not sure what to do.

Welcome back home!

You must first understand why this is a grave sin. Than go to confession. The church does not expect you to have this reversed, just to understand that this was wrong.

I hope that helps.

Welcome Home! Make an appointment for Confession, confess your sins, and you are forgiven! The Church would not ever expect you to have a reversal of your tubal - you will do penance. Pax:)

You do not have to have the procedure to have the tubal ligation “reversed”. You should however , confess it as it as it was a sinful act. And the Priest will most likely forgive you and tell you to go and sin no more. Remember , we are all weak and we all commit sins. It is in our repentance from these sins that redemption comes.

Welcome back =)
first, I agree with my comrades in understanding and confession. if you understand why something is wrong, then you are less likely to fall away from the Church again. The whole reason why people fall away in the first place is because they do not understand the Church and feel it is unimportant to study it.However you seem to know that it is bad, so your at least half way there.

Confession is a great process towards forgiveness. Remember that the Lord has forgiven you when you confess, however confession is more than just God’s forgiveness. It is a way for you to forgive yourself. If you -as many do- forget that important part, then you may wrongfully punish yourself with guilt which will lower your spirit, self respect, and conviction.

We must never forget the parable of the Prodigal Son. God is eternally merciful. His mercy outdoes his justice. He rejoices when his children return.

We go to confession, atone for our sins and move forward. I know some people in similar situations who have come back and have become very active in Pro-Life Ministry as a way of giving back to God, the Church and the world. You may want to consider something like this after receiving absolution. It’s not required, but it can do a lot of good for others and heal you.

As someone who used artificial birth control for most of my marriage, until after it was too late to have children, I can tell you that part of my pennance is to sit at a big dining room table on holidays and wonder what the children who would have filled the empty chairs would have been like. There is a feeling of incredible sadness to know that if it wasn’t for my disobedience, those chairs would have been likely been filled with very real human beings.

Thank you all. I do realize it was wrong and will go to confession as advised. 🙂

Tim, your post broke my heart. I can’t imagine how much that must hurt you.
