Wouldnt it be nice if we set aside some time each and everyday podering the miraculous birth of our savior?

For that matter, and most importantly the day he broke the bonds of death for us? Everyday we must spend some time pondering the magnitude of these things. IMHO.:o
YES!👍

A priest once told me that some theologians thought Jesus was acturally born in what would be our August. I can’t remember how they came to that conclusion, however.
That’s a very old theory. It has something to do with the dates that they thought the shepherds would be out in the fields. (Apparently, some scholars think it snows there like it snows here. In reality, though, December is the “wet season” in Palestine - perfect growing season for grass, and ideal for sheep, so it’s entirely possible that there were sheep out in the lush green fields in December - or pretty much any other time of the year, for that matter, other than the very height of the summer dry season. 👍 )

Ok, thanks!🙂

I know none of us know when Jesus was born, but I’m pretty sure all know it wasn’t on Dec. 25th. So, I was wondering what does the Church teach about the date? I have heard several stories. One that he was born in March, the JWs believe he was born in October, the atheists believe he was born in April.

Anyone know what our Church teaches?
THe short answer is that it doesn’t know the actual date when Jesus was born.

There is a 1 in 365 chance that Jesus was born on Dec.25. It is as good a day to celebrate as any other day given the significance of the winter solstace. We do not know that he wasn’t born on that day. It may be his actual birthday for all we know but that is not too important.

The winter solstice occurs on either December 21 or 22.

I believe that Jesus was born on November 25th.
This is the date revealed to Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich by God.

There is an interesting argument for when Jesus was born, based on when Zechariah would have been in service in the Temple. Thereafter, John the Baptist was conceived. Then we know that Elizabeth was in her sixth month of pregnancy when the Annunciation occurred. Then about nine months later was Christ’s birth.

The controversial point is when Zechariah served in the Temple. (I believe it was at the Feast of Tabernacles.)

It would not rock my boat if the Church suddenly said we are all now going to celebrate christmas in June. I could care less. It makes no difference to me at all changes not a thing and is not a salvation issue one way or the other.

that wouldn’t change my mind either, because the CC has always kept straight when it comes to the teachings. No lies, no changing doctrines… besides, JC was born and died for us, that’s all that counts!!

It would matter to me. I’d have to buy all new decorations and clothes based on warmer weather. Plus singing all those carols (walking in a winter wonderland, frosty the snowman, let it snow) just wouldn’t make any sense.

Also I’d be complaining then about stores alreading putting up decorations and Christmas items before St. Valentines Day, St Pat’s Day, and Easter.

😃

:rotfl: Didn’t think of it that way!
