vluvski…I was prescribed bc pills for another condition. Trust me, it wasn’t acne either. I was put on the pill to physically save my life!!! I can attest to the fact that there are other uses for them! I consulted with my pastor at the time I was prescribed and he said as long as it wasn’t for bc I could take them. He even said that I could continue having marital relations with my husband too. I know there are many doctors that would prescribe bc pills too readily, but there are times when it is medically necessary.Objectively speaking, no it is not a sin. Even if you were married and the doctor prescribed a medication with contraceptive effects for some other purpose, it would not be a sin.
HOWEVER, There is really no evidence that birth control is really as effective as some claim it is for treating other conditions, or for controlling regularity, or whatever. (Actually it is really not as effective at its prescribed use as most people say it is either, but that’s an entirely different topic.) To my knowledge, the ONLY use of the Pill approved by the FDA is contraceptive.
You should consult some good Catholic medical resources to find other options before using contraceptives to treat another condition.
