Birthday present for father

Hi CAF!

My fathers birthday is next week. He’s in his early 60s. As far as I know he’s a practicing Catholic and goes to mass on Sundays.He’s never interested in going to daily mass, adoration, or confession with me. I’ve given him books by Matthew Kelly in the past but he never read them. I’m trying to think of a gift to give him for his birthday. Perhaps a Catholic polo? My parents have many statues, crucifixes, etc. Thank you!

Does it have to be a “Catholic” gift? What does he enjoy? Maybe a dinner out, getting his car detailed, accessories for a hobby he enjoys, etc.? My dad takes a gem making class. He’s really into it and has created many lovely pieces. Ever since he started this hobby, DH and I give him classes or certificates or cash for gems or classes for every gift giving occasion.

It depends on what he is interested in, then suit it to him
or maybe ask mom

If he is a book person, maybe something lighter like
The Catechism of Hockey by Alyssa Bormes

make a mass intention on his birthday
and If you think he would be willing ask him to come to daily mass so father can give him a birthday blessing

I have found the least appreciated gifts are the gifts that are meant to try and **change **someone, or help improve them, even in a small way.

That’s what I was wondering about, are you trying to move him into a, what you would consider, “deeper” level of Catholicism? That could be a pretty big turn off.

Monicad’s practical gift ideas are great. There are years I’ve bought my dad underwear, socks, etc. and he was really appreciative. Before the gem class, he was incredibly hard to buy for and the practical things seemed to be the most successful ideas. We used to buy my great Aunt all her favorite snacks. The “expensive” things she wouldn’t always buy for herself.
