I studied psychology at college level, the one thing the most senior teacher told me which has stayed with me is this - nothing is ever proven in psychology. So it is not on the same level as other sciences, as it cannot be empirically proven.

With all due respect to your college teacher, s/he is wrong. PSYCHOLOGY IS A SCIENCE. It is in the category of sciences known as SOCIAL SCIENCES, which also include anthropology and sociology. Other sciences include NATURAL SCIENCES: biology, and PHYSICAL SCIENCES: physics and chemistry, as well as political science and economics. THESE ARE ALL SCIENCES BASED ON THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD. They involve experimental research and statistical analysis. When something is proven, that does not mean that it never changes if new information is found. ALL SCIENCES INVOLVE CHANGE. Please take my psychology courses!

Meltzerboy, I think a lot of people here understand that there are several branches of psychology. I think what the earlier poster (bev) was referring to was behavioral (abnormal & clinical) psychology. And yes, there are principles and scientific method involved in this branch as well. The difference is, as someone pointed out, methods and outcomes are not the same thing. In the human being, outcomes are much more difficult to predict and control, although scientific knowledge can make that increasingly likely, depending on the variant of the behavior and the locus or origin of that behavior. However, because of the difficulty of prediction in behavioral psychology, due to the complexity of the human brain and the variations in environment, which affect behavior, much more trial and error is built into the science of behavioral psychology, leading to variations in research findings.

You’re right, Elizabeth. That’s why we also have outcome research with regard to what works best in the treatment of ego-dystonic homosexuality and other problems. (The current thinking is that homosexuality is a disorder only if the gay person cannot accept his sexual orientation and feels ashamed. I know you don’t agree with that: moral relativism and all that jazz!) No bona fide clinical psychologist can pretend to predict outcomes in human behavior. It’s a matter of probabilities; but that’s also true to some extent in other sciences. However, certain treatments have significantly better track records than others. What non-clinical psychologists sometimes complain about is that certain therapies are only partially based on theoretical findings. Same in medicine. That’s where more research comes in. At the same time, there is the “whatever works” school of thought, not grounded in science, but based more on clinical intuition and experience.

It was never made illegal in the UK in my countrys long existence, and that pre-dates the porn industry.

By secret I was responding to your assertion that radical feminism is essentially a cover/linked in with lesbianism, as it’s their true “agenda”.

You might not have used those words, but you have certainly implied that radical feminists are campaigning for lesbianism/homosexual rights. That’s not a far jump from saying that they are taking up arms - it’s an expression, please read my posts.

If it’s anything but secret, surely it cannot be hard for you to post a link to a feminist website which demonstrates this?
**N.O.W. (the National Organization for Women - now.org), the largest feminist group in America and possibly the world is adamantly clear about their homosexual agenda (www.now.org/issues/lgbi/marr-rep.html) and Abortion rights. They were in the forefront of of the fight for sam sex marriage in every state. **

Others include the Feminist Majority Foundation (feminist.org), and UNIFEM www.unifem.org - a United Nations-based feminist group.**

Unless one is living under a rock or in complete and total denial - that person would have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to see the fact that Abortion and Gay rights have become two of the main pillars of the 21st century feminist movement.

PS - WHAT has never been illegal in your country? Lesbianism? I never said it was or should be.
WHAT are you talking about? 🤷

Let me be clear: no, it’s not. It may be about what you, personally, or some other person considers radical, but it’s actually pretty standard, every day, ABC feminism. As I previously stated, radical feminism proposes radical and violent answers to gender issues.

Now, who shall we decide knows best about the types of feminism: The 60 year old woman who grew up during the movement and was part of that movement? Or some guy?

The only connection between feminism of any sort and homosexuality in XY offspring, is that evidence shows the trait is not triggered until there are multiple pregnancies of male offspring. That is: your third son and subsequent sons will be gay at a much higher rate than your first or second. (Or, if there have been miscarriages, it could be a first son, but a third pregnancy of a male child. Feminists, of all stripes, tend to have fewer children. Possibly, this could change the incidence of gay males in a population where women are free to choose the number of offspring they bear.

Actual science, as I have stated, has shown decades ago that there is no link between the personality of the mother and whether sons are gay. However, same-sex attraction does increase beyond a population norm in areas where the population exceeds the resources, or perceived resources. This is a post-natal adaptation to environmental crowding, common to both genders.

Someone said gay men did not usually reproduce. On the contrary, the “norm” was for gay men to marry, have children, and develop relationships with other men extra-maritally. So, there are actually quite a few offsping of identified gay males since the 70s, when these men started divorcing and coming out. Twin studies are valuable in all kinds of behavioral research because you could, supposedly, eliminate genetics as a factor. But epigenetics has made that an outdated idea.

IF anyone wanted to research this issue, the information is easily found through your favorite search engine.

That’s all I have. I’m sure y’all can proceed itt without any further (name removed by moderator)ut from me.👍

Praxising - there are some hormonal correlates in subsequent pregnancies, if you want the references, I can find them easily. The evidence is not compelling yet, but the mountain is growing, and the bits of stone to build it are coming in from multiple directions. The knock out punch would be to do a projective genetics study on the offspring of gay biological parents. Previously, it was so difficult to identify who was gay, that the genetic studies tended to be objective on twins and nephews, etc… I would not expect the results of such a study to be available for perhaps 20 years.

Anecdotally, I can tell you that my dad was gay, and I am gay. He suffered horribly, largely in due to his relationship with some of the types who post on this site, and was dead by the age of 42 from alcoholism, when I was 11. For those of you who are unable to temper your language, when it is hateful, you might consider that there are others than my dad, such as Alan Turing, who committed suicide. Turing may have made a more positive contribution to humanity with his mathematics and work to crack the enigma machine than 99+% of anyone who will read this thread. His life ended prematurely as a result of his persecution for being gay. The next time you want to tell a joke which denigrates gay people, or make a hateful comment, please stop to consider that for a moment.

According to this logic, I no longer have to shove away into the dark recesses of my brain my primeval urge to rob banks. I’ve been plotting and scheming for years, just waiting for the opportunity to walk in, announce “hands up” and walk out with hundreds of thousands of dollars. If I had to shoot someone, well, I realised after a lot of soul searching, that if it happened, it would have been an unintended consequence of my sense of self preservation about who and what I am. Of course, I’ve refrained from actually carrying out what most people would call a dastardly deed, because I don’t want the social stigma that goes with being an outed and convicted bank robber. I’ve kept my proclivities to myself, because I don’t want to hurt my family, nor lose my friends. However, it has been a real sacrifice to have to hide away that part of me which just wants so very much to rob a bank. Every time I walk past one, the urge is almost overwhelming and it has been like that since I was a teenager. I actually have met a few who feel the same way, and at one stage we formed a gang, but they have decided to go straight and have not told anyone how they really feel. I am now glad I can ‘own’ my affliction and just be myself, without feeling ashamed of how I feel. Can I also give up counselling?

John - Are you being dramatic for “effect”, or do you actually compare being gay with committing a crime like robbing a bank? Just trying to understand how your mind works.

Go back and read Meltzerboys post, take note of what I underlined and then think about the ‘logic’ which is inherent in his post. particularly in light of the next sentence after that which I underlined. The “subject” of my post is the “logic”, as I indicated in my opening sentence. If you still need my reponse explained to you, just let me know.

I think I understand your logic. I think an analogy like bank robbery is a bit over the top to make your point, though.

And my ENTIRE point in this discussion was to show that not all people who engage in homosexuality are homosexual. Many are conditioned by the radical feminist/homosexual agenda that has sought to blur ALL of the sexual and societal norms.

This particular artical was about females and really didn’t address males. I was using it as an example to prove my point and that of Joe Dallas and Dr. Nicolosi.
There is a world of difference between living a homosexual lifestyle (e.g. having sex with members of your own gender) and girls just acting gay by kissing and fondling one another. Especially if the girls in question are just doing it to get the attention of males.

Actually, if you’d read the links properly, plus followed a few more leads that were pretty obvious, you’d know it was more than one. Like they say, there are none so blind…
…as those who quote things without checking their sources perhaps?😃

Slavery in the US was radical. Ending it was not. Google Somersett’s case. British High Court, 1772. And please go deeper than Wiki for your true edumacation.
No, not really.

Slavery in United States was old, well established, profitable, and (least in the South) socially acceptable. Ending it was indeed radical.

Here is a definition from Dictionary.com (and a link: dictionary.reference.com/browse/radical) to help you understand the term.

–adjective
1.of or going to the root or origin; fundamental: a radical difference.
2.thoroughgoing or extreme, especially as regards change from accepted or traditional forms: a radical change in the policy of a company.
3.favoring drastic political, economic, or social reforms: radical ideas; radical and anarchistic ideologues.
4.forming a basis or foundation.
5.existing inherently in a thing or person: radical defects of character.
6.Mathematics .
a.pertaining to or forming a root.
b.denoting or pertaining to the radical sign.
c.irrational ( def. 5b ) .
7.Grammar . of or pertaining to a root.
8.Botany . of or arising from the root or the base of the stem.

–noun
9.a person who holds or follows strong convictions or extreme principles; extremist.
10.a person who advocates fundamental political, economic, and social reforms by direct and often uncompromising methods.
11.Mathematics .
a.a quantity expressed as a root of another quantity.
b.the set of elements of a ring, some power of which is contained in a given ideal.
c.radical sign.
12.Chemistry .
a.group ( def. 3 ) .
b.free radical.
13.Grammar . root ( def. 11 ) .
14.(in Chinese writing) one of 214 ideographic elements used in combination with phonetics to form thousands of different characters.

saying “so you are old, so what” is not really a good answer to an argument, as well as your bringing up interacial marriage and women going to college which doesn’t have anything to do with a topic at hand
Oh yes it does.

Because I was disputing the argument that just because was radical it was bad.

Some friends and I beat up homosexuals back in the 70s. Back then, no one said anything. Men fought and men did not put up with homosexuals. And the homosexuals kept quiet.

When I mentioned these 30+ year old fights, I got verbally jumped on here. Now it’s different. Boys put on makeup in junior high and no one says a word. Not the world I wanted.

Sorry some homosexual boys got hurt. I’m more sorry that being a heterosexual boy has got so much harder.
Good.

If you were acting like a thug (and it sounds like you were) your behavior (in that instance at least) deserves condemnation. Not praise or even indifference.

Moreover, I do consider it a bigger issue to beat up and bully people just because they look different, than boys wearings things like makeup.

Well Meltzerboy, once again you prove yourself to be a champion of moral relativism.
The topic of my response was the point about the ending of slavery being radical or not. Of course, once you wrote of the opinion of the southerners you adopted a relativist stance. Objectively, slavery had been considered as “wrong” for a long time and the so the ending of it was not radical…
Not in historical terms.

The Abolitionist Movement is only a few centuries old at this point, but slavery has been around since the beginning of recorded history.

What exactly is your definition of lying? In most people’s dictionaries it involves misrepresenting the facts. That is precisely what you did, with regard to my words. Anyone reading my last post can see for themselves precisely where you altered my post, without notifying the CAF community what you were doing. And that’s why it violates Forum Rules to do that. It’s extremely disrespectful.
QUOTE]

I was not trying to lie (either directly or by omission), and I apologize if I appear to have done so.

**Now you’re going to the *other ***extreme and it’s a silly premise.

My point is that because the behavioral sciences are constantly changing you cannot call one doctor a quack simply because he is getting different results that his peers becaue of a different approach.

Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
Dr. Nicolosi, Joe Dallas and others are getting results because of their different therapies.
If the behavioral sciences are so unreliable (that even the groups for regulating it are terribly inconsistent), why should we take Nicolosi and Dallas (or for that matter any psychologist or psychiatrist) seriously?

You cannot see a difference (morally speaking) between violent robbery and homosexual attraction?
