Hello, I am a religion teacher in a Catholic school. Can someone give me a brush up on Church authority? I don’t think my bishop has made a declaration on voting for a pro-abortion candidate, but I know MANY bishops have declared it a sin to do so. Can I use the statements of other bishops to justify what I teach students, co-workers and parents in my own diocese as a catechist? Thank you!

What the other Bishops have stated is a matter of Church Moral Doctrine, not discipline which can in certain instances vary from diocese to diocese, Moral Doctrine does not.
