Bishop: Catholics Should Get Involved in Pro-Life Activities

October has traditionally been Respect Life month in the Catholic Church and with national campaigns like Life Chain and 40 Days for Life taking place, there are plenty of pro-life activities for Catholics to join.

Dear juliee,

Thanks for starting this thread. I believe that abortion is the most serious and most urgent evil to be overcome in our time. There are many other evils but this one to me is the most heinous insult to God’s creative love and the most callous crime against innocent babies who cannot defend themselves. It is not just for October, but 24/7.

We need to Respect Life in all stages of development and so Life Chain and 40 Days for Life are wonderful ways to stand for the unborn. Priests for Life, C-Fam, and Good Counsel Homes all are Catholic Life Organizations we can support. There are also many other ways that we can get involved in Pro-Life actions to respect the lives of the elderly and others at risk. I came across a surprising new website (new for me at least) which others may be interested in, which seeks to help young women on campus who are at risk. See HERE

Please let us all continue to pray for the conversion of hearts toward Life, and do whatever we can to help others to see the beauty of God’s Love in every person, born and unborn, at whatever stage of development they may be. Thanks to all who are working and/or willing to begin working for Life.

Dear Sonny,

Prayers, and especially Masses for Life, are important. Thanks for your efforts. Our active participation in our government is also important. I received this e-mail today and share it for all those who may need to become more involved as our Bishops have asked:
Just a reminder: The September 30 deadline is fast approaching for sending your comments to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on their contraceptive mandate.
Many of you have already sent a message. But it you have not yet done so, please send your message today!
…As you will recall, in implementing the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently issued guidelines requiring almost all private health plans to cover FDA-approved contraceptive methods and sterilization as “preventive services” for women. This action poses an unprecedented threat to the religious freedom of individuals and institutions. Until now, no federal law has required private health plans to cover these services.
The statement that these services “do not include abortifacient drugs” is misleading. The FDA-approved “emergency contraception” (EC) drugs covered by this mandate can work by interfering with implantation. Also, the drug the FDA most recently approved for EC, "Ella,” a close analogue to the abortion drug RU-486, has been shown in animal tests to cause abortion. Thus, the mandate includes drugs that may cause an abortion both before and after implantation.
A religious exemption to the mandate is not only extremely narrow but unprecedented in federal law. Plans offered by a great many religious organizations, including Catholic colleges and universities as well as hospitals and charitable institutions that serve the general public, would be ineligible under the exemption. Individuals and health insurance companies do not qualify at all.
Thanks for everything you do in support of life!

Thanks for sharing this email. I’m certainly looking for ways to become more active as well as praying & trying to organise Masses etc. Having just graduated from University, I’m now looking for a job which will allow me to be active in the Pro Life Movement here in England. No luck yet but God willing, something will come up soon

Peace & All Good :blessyou:

Dear Sonny,

May the Lord grant you a job which will allow you to be active in The Pro-Life Movement in England. We need faithful disciples of Jesus everywhere! Let us continue to pray for an end to abortion and by God’s Grace, do what we can, to spread the Gospel of Life.

Thanks for your Prayers MariaChristi! Please keep 'em coming

Peace & All Good :blessyou:

You bet! 🙂 Prayer is such a gift from God – both to receive and to give! Please keep me in yours too. May we continue to do whatever we can, trusting in the Good God for everything.
