so happy to hear that Bishop Jerome E. Listecki will be bishop of LaCrosse. I’m sure the good people there will be pleased.

Ok Chicagoans – what’s the word on Listecki??

My parents across the river in WI would really like to know who their new shepherd is and I can find very little info on him online…

Jerry’s a good guy. He was a great fit for his vicariate. You’ll like him. We’ll miss him.

Who’s our next auxiliary going to be? Will Lou Camelli finally get a mitre?

STATEMENT OF FRANCIS CARDINAL GEORGE, O.M.I.
RE: Appointment of Bishop Jerome E. Listecki as Bishop of La Crosse, WI.
December 29, 2004

Pope John Paul II has appointed Bishop Jerome E. Listecki as Bishop of La Crosse, WI. Bishop Listecki, who has served the past four years as an Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago and as my Vicar in the northern vicariate of the Archdiocese, is a faithful and faith-filled man whose presence and ministry enriched our lives. I congratulate him but, even more, I congratulate the priests and religious and lay people of the Diocese of La Crosse. In Bishop Listecki, they will find a careful teacher, a zealous pastor, a shepherd after Christ’s own heart.

Bishop Listecki is well respected by the U. S. Bishops, who elected him to the chairmanship of the pastoral practices committee. He is obviously well respected by the Holy Father, who now entrusts him with the spiritual welfare of a diocese. He is respected and loved by all those he served here in the Archdiocese and as chaplain in the armed services of our country. I will personally miss not only his creative ideas and wise counsel but, even more, his warm friendship. He belongs now to La Crosse, but Chicago will always be proud of him.

No doubt that they are dancing in the streets in San Antonio. A heroic, faithful, well formed archbishop so obviously attuned to hispanic culture and justice.

I will begin my Te Deum shortly. Great news.

Anyone from Sioux Falls or Saginaw know about Bishop Carlson? It was interesting to note that he reprimanded Tom Daschle for his support of abortion, and his diocese has 25 seminarians (per website). That’s pretty good for such a small area. Saginaw should receive a quite different pastoral style than it did with the late Bishop Untener.

Well maybe not in the streets, but definitely at my house!

P.S. I’m not hispanic, but having been raised in San Antonio, I can hold my own in Spanish, had enchiladas for lunch today and am grateful for the appointment of such a faithful priest to be our new archbishop.

San Antonio, gordittos for everyone.

Has the damage in the Cathedral been repaired? What happened there? I don’t recall. A deranged person? Was the statue of the Virgin repaired?

I am sad that Bishop Listecki is leaving us, he is wonderful.

Who is Lou Camelli?

Texan in exile here: Was Archbishop Flores not well liked? Unorthodox? What was the problem?

He was perhaps a bit over generous with allowing creativity at the local seminaries.

Carlson is well-known as passionately orthodox - he was specially selected to clean up the (very) problematic Saginaw diocese. He’s a very good man and a wonderful bishop - the Sioux Falls diocese over the past few years would be a dream come true for most of the people here, with holy priests, a 0% sex abuse rate, high vocations, and genuine faithfulness to Rome. I was very fortunate to have converted in his cathedral and was confirmed by him. I have close friends who work for the bishop (one of whom will be departing with him for Saginaw), so I’m honestly not sure how much of what I know about the situation is public - however, the circumstances surrounding his acceptance of the position are admirable and speak well of him as a man of integrity. If I were a faithful Catholic in Saginaw, I’d be doing handsprings.

He is very orthodox and pro-life. He is a lawyer and is an expert on canon law. He is also an officer (Chaplain) in the US Army reserves, but I do not know if he is retired or not.

Saginaw will be cleaned out within 5 years, i guarantee it! Bishop Carlson was my bishop here in South Dakota and damnit, we’re losing a great guy… but Saginaw will be much blessed to have him!

You won’t find a much more orthodox Bishop than our own Most Rev. Robert James Carlson!

GOD BLESS THAT MAN!
GULaw, who is it that’s going with him? Would it be Nancy Werner or who?

BTW- I was a seminarian for a while under Bishop Carlson’s reign as bishop. Great man.

He is also very pastoral and very well liked by the progressive Catholics in Chicago. They are sad to see him go, but the people of LaCrosse are getting a good man.

Bishop Carlson and Bishop Listecki are outstanding and will be much missed in their dioceses, but a great gift to their new sees. Don’t know Bp. Gomez but glad to hear he is well thought of.

Bishop Listecki is awesome…he will be missed, yet LaCrosse receives an excellent Sheperd. Sadly, his tenure in the Chicago area was too short.
