This is all you got from that post…and all you can do is rant against my frank statement that hey, I’m not a Catholic?
I couldn’t care less whether or not you are catholic, or even suicidal for that matter.

As should be quite evident, I chose to post with regard to the use of a particular title by a person who has no right to it. If I am annoyed it has to do with nothing at all that has any relevance whatever to your personal life, and I assure you that long will I be utterly apathetic with regard to such things.

Yes, it is important to remember that Catholics developed unique traditions that define what it means to be a Catholic Bishop. However, Catholics did not invent the role or ancient words associated with Bishop
Quite right.

I hope you will overlook my simplification, and I appreciate your fondness for etymology.

Actually, you went from that to a completely off topic attack upon my beliefs. You realize, don’t you, that your statement had absolutely nothing at all to do with Eddie Long, bishop or not, and was completely off topic?

…and that your post here is simply an extension of that dismissive, insulting and anything BUT apathetic reaction to my post?

🤷

whatever.

In America, our system calls for innocence until proven guilty.
Why does this not apply to Catholic Priests. In this country, all there has to be is an accusation and the priest is removed. He is not even reassigned. He is removed from priestly duties. Even if exonerated, he is almost never returned to the parish where the accusation took place. There seems to be a double standard. Why cant the priest get up in front of their congregation and shout, Im gonna fight this!!! like this guy did. No, even if proven innocent, his life is ruined and his ministry effectively over. Ted Haggard seems to have bounced back pretty nicely though…

Guilty until proven innocent applies to any educator accused of sexual misconduct in the USA - it’s not just Priests.

Although it’s hard on Priests (unfair), the approach seems essential to restore confidence in the Church

Catholic law is not American law. If it were so, then the Church would have to recognize the wedding of my Lutheran daughter and her Catholic husband and not deny him communion. Do I think this unfair? Not in the least. If Catholics are not free to follow their consciences and abide by the tenets of their faith, then my ability to do so is also impaired. My daughter and son-in-law will go through the appropriate procedures so he can participate in the Eucharist again.

I agree that it is a terrible price for a priest to pay if he is not guilty, but then so are the other things that he has to give up to be a priest. This is why the priesthood is a calling, not merely a career decision.

Bishop Long has no one to lean on in this situation. He is the top man in a church that is preacher based. I pray that he will find God’s grace in this and that his church can continue to witness the glory of God. I hope that the members of the congregation can find their strength in the Lord and not in the person of the bishop, regardless of his guilt or innocence.

As others have pointed out, there is no joy in this.

Benny Hinn was caught holding hands with Paula White in Rome, now this…it looks to be another bad year for the Word of Faith people. Not that I relish in the despair of others’ homes, but hey…by the fruits you shall know them.
