We are in desperate need of leaders like him, not afraid to speak out, not afraid to stand up for what is right, not afraid to point out what is wrong. This guy speaks prophetic messages, it’s so good to see a glimpse of the past, how things were, where they were headed, how he predicted things will be, and how things are now. Look to what’s accepted today in the mainstream media, or the bulk of Christian media for that matter, his messages would be discouraged. We as a society have fallen a long, long way since those times as he predicted, and think about it, at one time he was in the #1 slot in prime time television, where would he be now if he was still alive broadcasting these messages:

The only talks of his that i have are from a 1973 Retreat in the diocese of Gary, Indiana. Classics.
Youre right! He certainly sensed which way the wind was blowing; and what he said back then is even more relevant now. Well have to pray that his canonization cause keeps moving; and pray for his intercession. The same with GK Chesterton. Itd be great to see how GKC would handle the Churchs current crop of enemies: “inside”, as well as outside, the Church.

Fr. Corapi is trying to follow in Archbishop Sheens footsteps. Hes not afraid to speak out, either.
eg how to have a vocations crisis:

Do NOT accept the teaching of the Magisterium of the Church
Badmouth the Pope, and
send them to LOUSY seminaries.
You will have no vocations…

There is a documentary on Abp Sheen that will have it’s official unveiling in Rome April 22nd during some conference going on. Some very important conference. Pray for it’s well reception.

It’s called “Archbishop Fulton Sheen: Servant of All”

Also I know that the cause for his canonization is steadily moving forward. The focus for the group is not ONLY for his cause, but also to make him more widely known, for the various reasons you guys have mentioned. A real need for someone like him in these days.

The goal is to make him more widely, world wide, known as well as to introduce him to the new generations of these days.

Abp Sheen was in my opinion, far ahead of his time.

His messages seem to be even more relevent today than whenhe was on TV.

But then again, I’m a little prejudiced, since he was from our Diocese. (Diocese of Peoria, Illinois)

We were very lucky to have Msgr. Deptula speak at our parish mission a few weeks ago regarding Abp. Sheen.

Msgr. Deptula is the Executive Director of the cause, and his talks about Abp. Sheen are available on our parish website.

Bishop Sheen had a great sense of humor, too. Here’s one of his gems:

Did you ever hear about the very modern sister that went in to see the pastor? And she said:

“Father, you didn’t know I had red hair, did you?”

“No,” he said.

"I didn’t know you had varicose veins, either!"
 
I was told of his whit on the radio, where at one occassion, some heckler asked him about what would Darwin think about a certain situation. He explains that he doesn’t know, perhaps he’ll ask him when he gets to heaven. The heckler shouts back, what if he’s in hell? Bishop Sheen quickly remarks back, “then you’ll be able to ask him yourself”😃

They’re very excited. All 22 are going to make it.

This bunch has presented some unique challenges this year, but they have been worth it, and the rewards of overcoming them has been overwhelming and gratifying.

Sometimes I feel like a proud papa…lol
 
My wife just introduced me to a video of +Sheen on youtube from an older show called “What’s My Line” (I think).

Anyway, it’s so nice to see him treated with such respect. Not at all like today. One of the panelists genuflected on her left knee and kissed his ring. The host was extremely gentlemanly…So nice.

Also, the one with Yul Brynner was hilarious. I highly recommend.

Or the three drunken revellers who return to their high rise New York hotel in a power blackout. The manager offers to make up beds in the foyer so they won’t have to climb 45 floors to their rooms.

They assure him its all right, saying, “Harry will sing songs for the first fifteen stories to help pass the time, then Joe will tell funny stories for the next fifteen stories, and Gus will tell sad stories for the last fifteen.” So off they go.

Harry sings for the first fifteen stories. No problem. Then Joe takes over and tells funny stories for the middle fifteen. Time goes pretty fast. Then it’s Gus’ turn.

“OK, Gus, it’s your turn” the other two yell out. “What’s your first sad story”.

“I forgot the key”.
 
You know something I have been watching reruns of his program on EWTN and everything he talks about and I believe his show took place inthe 50s and 60s is just as relavant today

Indeed it is. He was a man ahead of his time. Very prophetic in many ways.

That is why one of the goals of his Cause for canonization is more than just to have him declared a saint. It’s to make him more widely known once again. To introduce (and re-introduce) him to the generations of today. Great efforts are being put into that goal, as well.

It is felt he is needed as much today as he was needed when he was alive.
 
I could listen to him all day long, just getting lost in his message!

I just received his book, The Seven Last Words. I can’t wait to read it!

I agree; I loved watching rebroadcasts of his shows on EWTN. That network is the only reason to have a Dish subscription.

Great thread! Abp. Sheen was truly ahead of his time.
