Do you think Fulton Sheen should be made a Saint? I do, I see Christ in his eyes.

He already is. We just await the Churches declaration of it.

I predict he will be considered one of the greatest Saints of the 20th Century along with Mother Teresa, John Paul The Great ,St. Padre Pio, and St. JoseMaria Escriva.

The fact that we are witnessing the lives of such GREAT saints in our time gives me so much hope. Throughout history great saints came out of the darkest times. It gives me hope and it is exciting to be a part of this time in history, even though we are suffering and weeping in this valley of tears. Glory to God!

I love Bishop Sheen! Here is a prayer from the back of a prayer card I have:

Prayer to Obtain a Favor Through the Intercession of the
Servant of God
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
Eternal Father, You alone grant us every blessing in Heaven and on earth, through the redemptive mission of Your Divine Son, Jesus Christ, and by the working of the Holy Spirit.

If it be according to Your Will, glorify Your servant, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, by granting the favor I now request through his prayerful intercession (mention your request).

I make this prayer confidently through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

If you pray this prayer, and receive your request or a miracle, make sure you report it to the foundation. It will help them in preparing material for the declaration of Bishop Sheen’s Sainthood.

You can contact The Archbishop Sheen Foundation at PO Box 728, Peoria, IL 61652-0728

Although Bishop Sheen lived before time (atleast most of it) I’ve heard some of his talks and from what I heard and know about him I believe he should be declared a saint.

While reading about him a while back I came across some “issue” that might prevent him from being declared a saint. I forgot what it was. Does anyone here know what the possible “road block” involved?

Thanks.

Because he was from Peoria?😉

I remember hearing that Bishop Sheen often struggled with his own ego and love of being the center of attention. However, he was fully aware of this shortcoming and confessed it regularly. This may be a road block, but not something that would stop him from being canonized. Show me a Saint (besides our Blessed Mother) that didn’t have shortcomings, public or private. Even Mother Theresa wrote of dark moments where she struggled with her faith.

Even though he is also from before my time, I love listening to him. He was admired by Catholics and Non-Catholics alike. What a brilliant and inspirational man!

I dearly love the man and give him some credit in bringing me to the Church, and part of my love for him is seeing what a ham he was on “Life is Worth Living.” It’s endearing the same way William Shatner’s hamminess (sp?) is. I certainly don’t hold it against him.

A great man who suffered from cHurch politics. The strange things he always had more Friends in Rome than NY.

Sheen’s preaching was (and is!) wonderful and brilliant. The following website is of great use for getting hooked on listening to the late (now Servant of God) Archbishop Sheen:

Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s Radio Catechism

Personally, I recommend the following as possibly being his greatest recordings (at least among those that are readily available):

Christ – His Passion and Death, Part 1

Christ – His Passion and Death, Part 2

Christ – His Passion and Death, Part 3

Another website that sells a tape/CD set which contains the uncut version of the above “clips” described his preaching that day:

On April 8, 1977, a record crowd of over 6,000 worshippers came to St. Agnes Catholic Church in New York City to attend the Good Friday Service given by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. This was the very same church where, 50 years before, Sheen delivered his first three-hour Good Friday Service as a young priest. Now the church was filled to capacity, along with the school cafeteria, gymnasium and classrooms. Finally, NY Police had to shut down traffic on 43rd and 44th streets to protect the faithful who crowded the sidewalks outside the church, where loudspeakers carried the inspired words of the beloved prelate. The TV networks broadcast the Archbishop’s remarks on the evening news and the enlightening event made the front page of the New York Times. This was truly Archbishop Sheen’s finest hour.

Enjoy!

In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

I agree (I would also add St. Pius X to that list 👍 )

Him too! I must say that I’m still waiting for “Pio Nono” Pius IX, also one of my favorites.🙂

Thanks everyone! Wow! Looks like we’ll be calling him Saint Fulton soon!

We add our prayers for the Canonization of Archbishop Sheen and for all Catholics to be more active and joyful in celebrating our Faith, our Church, our Saints, and our Holy Trinity through worship, pilgrimages, retreats, feasts, concerts, prayer, media, and much more.

This is a 9 year old dormant thread. We are not supposed to resurrect old threads. Same topic can be discussed by opening a new thread.

I love Archbishop Fulton Sheen.

That being said, there are two impediments that may prevent his canonization.

One, his love of fine dinning at fancy restaurants.

Two, his love of Cadillac.

Archbishop Sheen himself said that he was attracted to these two things and felt if he had to live life over, would’ve tried to detach from them.

These aren’t necessarily going to prohibit is canonization, but his life in luxury will not help.
