Bishop Ivan Semedi falls asleep in the Lord

In you charity, please remember the soul of Bishop Ivan Semedi, retired Bishop of Mukachevo, Ukraine, who fell asleep on December 6th. He was 88 years old.

Vl. Ivan was ordained a priest at a kitchen table, in the middle of the night, in the Underground Ruthenian Rite Catholic church in Ukraine and was a priest for 62 years.

He was also consecrated Bishop in the middle of the night, also at a kitchen table during the Communist Persecution and was a Bishop for 31 years.

Funeral services for a Bishop will be tomorrow, December 9th, at Holy Cross Cathedral in Uzhorod.

Vichnaya pamyat, Vladyko, to a great hero of the Underground Church. He was ordained to the priesthood by Blessed Teodor Romzha shortly before Blessed Teodor’s martyrdom.

He was consecrated Bishop in secrecy by Blessed Oleksandr Khira who was himself later exiled to Kazakhstan and worked tirelessly amongst exiled Greek Catholics. A story for another day.
