Bishop Morlino attacked in local paper; Madison, WI

I think it is important to note that the article on which the blog post is based was published in The Isthmus, which is a free alternative weekly. This newspaper would be similar to a much smaller version of the LA Weekly, or the Chicago Reader, or a New York Press. It is not part of the mainstream media. Controversial lead articles are pretty common in such weeklies - its a way of enticing people to pick up copies of the paper.

That said, I don’t think it is surprising that members of Call to Action or Dignity USA would be opposed to Bishop Morlino. He seems to be tightening the screws of orthodoxy. And he seems to be recruiting priests from small, conservative orders. Neither of these things will go down well in liberal Madison.

Which is exactly why he has many supporters. So many of us (such as myself) who have wholeheartedly returned to Holy Mother Church are tired of the rantings of dissidents and the attention the press gives them.

There is also video available which pointedly shows how humbly the Bishop gave his message contrasted by the protestors who loudly and rudely interrupted his prayer and those who prayed with him.

This is the saddest thing and certainly illustrates how far we have degenerated in a “faith” society toward evil and the world. It is also a telling contrast between the bishops’ stance on homosexuality if you look at this and the incident at St. Francis Xavier (NY) a month or so ago. Hostilities between opposing sides seem to be getting stronger. As the enemies of God rant and rave all the louder, let’s just increase our prayers for mercy and forgiveness.

Accolades to this courageous bishop who defends the Church and I pray his confreres will stand tall beside him.
 
I haven’t posted in a while. I am heartbroken that Bishop Morlino is facing this hatred from people who have made their appetites their god. When there are no limits to self-gratification, then one descends into a madness that can not recognize the soothing balm of goodness.
May our Lord and our Blessed Mother console, strengthen, and bless our beloved brother Bishop Robert Morlino.
 
I lived in Madison from 1988 to 1993 as a student. Especially on campus, I’ll affirm that any bishop NOT hated and despised by the culture at large in that wasteland simply must not be doing his duty.

The fact that Bishop Morlino has so much oppostion simply reaffirms in my mind the stories you hear about him working hard to ensure that genuine catholicism is taught and evangelized in his diocese.
