Does anyone know anything about bishop George H. Niederauer of Salt Lake City filling the vacancy left by Archbishop Levada former bishop of San Francisco? It could be just a rumor. Archbishop Levada is now the prefect of the Doctrine of the Faith the post left open by our Holy Father.

Whoa! I just got my copy of our diocese newspaper yesterday. I’ll read through it and see if it says anything and let you know.

Well, there’s nothing in our newspaper. Where did you hear this rumor? It takes a very special man to be the bishop of this diocese because of the dominance of the LDS church. Bishop Neiderhauer has done a fantastic job here. I’ll keep checking and let you know what I find out.

Maggie, what kind of bishop has Neiderauer been? I left while Weigand was still there, and I haven’t kept in touch with any of my Catholic friends from Utah. I did talk to some Utah Catholics online a few years back in an AOL chatroom, and at least one of them was very down on Weigand. I was still so clueless while I lived there that I couldn’t have told you if he was liberal, conservative, ultra-traditional, ultra-new-age, or what have you.

He is great! He reminds us to live with our LDS neighbors in peace and love, as Jesus taught us. I’ve seen him on local TV specials and he is very easy to listen to and very wise. But to be honest, I don’t know if he’s conservative, liberal, etc. I guess it’s because living here in Utah, we mainly need his help in dealing with the LDS church. I’ve never heard any one bad mouth him. I guess this isn’t much help for someone living in another state but it’s the best I can do right now. I guess I should ask around. My aunt works at one of our Catholic high schools. She should have more insight. I’ll ask her. I know that the Catholic youth really like him and he’s very approachable. That always says a lot about a person, especially a bishop.

Thanks for the info, Maggie. I still think of my suffering Catholic friends that I left behind, and the difficulties that they have seen while trying to live their faith in that state. I look at the online version of the Trib from time to time, but that of course is not any good for following the reality of Catholic life there.

The Cathedral of the Madeleine is still one of my favorites. I never got to see it in person after it was renovated, but the pictures seem to show a more Vat2 appearance. Not sure how I feel about that, but someday I hope to go back and see it.

You can read our Catholic newspaper online. www.icnp.com It always has a copy of that week’s homily by Bishop Neiderauer (I know I’m not spelling his name correctly). Anyway, this will give you a better idea of the Catholic community in Utah

A few weeks ago my husband and I had the pleasure of attending weekday Mass, 8 am, at the Cathedral in SLC. The Cathedral is beautiful. The baptismal font is quite new, can be used for submerging. The homily at the weekday Mass was wonderful. I have never been to weekday mass where a homily was given. My husband, former LDS, is very familiar with the Temple just a few blocks from the Cathedral, and was in awe at the beauty of this lovey place of worship.

Love and Peace

Thanks for the link and all the great info. I’ll have to reacquaint myself with the Church in Utah. :tiphat:
