Benedict XVI took leave of the United Kingdom today, entrusting before he left two particular tasks to the bishops of England, Scotland and Wales.

One of the two tasks seems straightforward: use the new translation of the Roman Missal as a opportunity for deeper instruction on the meaning of, and devotion to, the Eucharist.

The other is a little more obscure to me. The pope urged the bishops to “be generous in implementing the apostolic constitution ‘Anglicanorum Coetibus.’” I guess if I had read it, I would have a better idea what he meant.

He continued: “It helps us to set our sights on the ultimate goal of all ecumenical activity: the restoration of full ecclesial communion in the context of which the mutual exchange of gifts from our respective spiritual patrimonies serves as an enrichment to us all.”

Given that the Anglican Church has female priests and bishops, and is unlikely to change its ways, is full communion possible?

I think a little while ago there was some story or something that bishops in England were weary about implementing Anglicanorum Coetibus at all, so maybe that’s he was talking about.

No, it isn’t, and if you ask my opinion the entire “ecumenical dialogue” between Rome and Lambeth is just a bunch of nonsense. The Roman Catholic Church in England IS the Church of England, after all. There is no question of reunification with the hierarchy of the Established Church of England (and the Anglican Communion). Those people aren’t the English hierarchy, they aren’t bishops, they aren’t priests…regardless of what sex they are…they’re all just heretical laymen (and women)! So what on earth, exactly, is the Pope talking about with respect to the restoration of “full ecclesial communion”?

Ordination of women an obstacle? They haven’t ordained any women; they haven’t ordained anybody, at all! The Anglicans are disconnected from the apostolic succession and couldn’t create an altar boy, much less a priest (or a priestess). The whole exercise is a nonsense. Reunion? Reunion with what? The hierarchy in the UK has been re-established. The Established Church of England is no church at all. How can there be an ecclesial “reunion” with a non-ecclesial sham of a heretical organization that can number not one single authentic priest amongst its leadership? To me you might as well talk about “reunion” with the churches of Joel Osteen or Ernest Angley.

In the end, the false ecumenical dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Protestants only ever serves to cause the Catholics to water-down their faith and to apologize for it.

I will give the CoE points for one thing and one thing only: ceremony. The pomp and circumstance that the Catholic Church used to enjoy has been faithfully preserved by the Anglicans. That’s one thing I wouldn’t mind rubbing off on Rome.

This document is what many Pro Anglicans do not like, as they see it as prostylization - But , it isnt - it is offering a key to the doors of Mother Church from the chaos that is the Anglican Communion right now

I am sure Rowan Williams means well, and is trying, but, like it or not, the ultimate destination for those folks that want to be catholic, is the Catholic Church. The Anglican Church/CofE was born out of butchery, and usurpery - That is not harsh retoric, it is the simple truth . There was established hierarchy in England, and because one egomaniac couldnt pursuade them to go along with him, had many put to death. 2 generations later, his Sucessor carried on the Torch without missing a step. Many of us who are Irish decent know the extent of the so called “English Reformation” and how bloody it ended for those men and women who held to the True faith.

I wonder what sort of behind the scenes talks there were at Lambeth - Again- I really think +Rowan means well, but I also believe his hands , he has allowed to be very tied together
