He just got appointed as the new bishop of my diocese (Columbus, OH).
Anyone here from Rockville Center (his previous see) who knows about him?

Already read that 🙂 Looked through the first few pages that popped up on Google - primarily hoping to hear firsthand stories

I’ve been under 3 different bishops. Unless you’re a Priest or Diocesan employee, you’ll seldom see him.

Sure, but he still has an influence on me - I live in his diocese, he controls my high school, my parish, a lot of other things that are p dang relevant to me

I wouldn’t worry about it. Even our most controversial Bishop didn’t change much. Your Priest might know more about Bishop Brennan.

It’s best when one doesn’t see or hear much of a bishop. These days when a Bishop comes out for anything other than a sacramental event like ordination, confirmation, or 200th anniversary of your parish, he’s usually doing something unpleasant like closing half the churches or getting investigated by a grand jury.

He’s one of my favorite Catholics. I think he is definitely one of the top ten leaders in the New Evangelization. I love the work he has done on the internet and in his well known Catholiciswm series.

I recently enjoyed his commentary on the film Bird Box. (some amount of spoiler alert but he does not give it all away)

My Bishop is extremely active in my diocese. I see him once a month or so at some function or saying mass somewhere. Very holy Bishop

If anyone has not yet watched the Catholicsim series. I think it’s a must see. Truly. Just my opinion, of course, but I know everyone venerates my recommendations quite highly around here. (well almost everyone…okay, a few people do, I’m pretty sure, never mind.)

Yikes. My experience in the Eparchy of Parma has been the exact opposite. Just last summer Bishop Milan came to my parish to fill in for the weekend while our priest was away. Afterwards he personally met with my fiance and I to discuss some canons concerning our marriage.

A good bishop should be intimately involved in parish life, and readily available to serve his flock. Parma is very blessed to have a bishop that does this.

We Byzantines are generally blessed with closer relationships with our Bishops then those in the west will ever experience. I believe that this is how it should be, but it is not practical in most diocese.

I’m not in your eparchy, but I love Bishop Milan. He seems like such a gentle and holy man.

I didn’t know Bishop Campbell was already at the retirement age. I feel like he just got to Columbus. Now that I look, though, he’s been there 15 years. Time flies. 😝

That seems true to me. It’s one of the benefits of having less people, I suppose.

I suppose the Latin rite could triple or quadruple the number of dioceses and bishops to achieve something similar. 🤔

I couldn’t agree more. Speaking to him is like speaking to one of the Apostles – which is exactly how it should be, considering Apostolic Succession and all 😛

Every time I see him I’m greeted with a huge smile and a “glory to Jesus Christ!”
