I suspect he reached the mandatory age at which he was required to send in his resignation papers. They were then accepted. Business as usual, probably.

no, it’s something health related or otherwise unable to perform his duties, according to Code of Canon Law cited (401 paragraph 2). I just thought he looked extremely healthy and hadn’t heard he was ill.

I subscribe to VIS (vatican info service) and it was listed as something on the Pope’s calendar the other day, with reference to the Code of Canon Law, which I immediately looked up.
Doesn’t make sense to me, he seems so healthy.
