I live in the Fresno Diocese though I’ve been Anglican for a while. I never much cared for Steinbock’s leadership or some of his liberal views on immigration, etc. but I hate to see him go. He was a good man and tried to live a godly life. He was always friendly, loyal to the Church, and generally looked upon favorably I think. I hated to see him lose his battle with lung cancer; he’s been dying for weeks now barely able to breathe. The pastor at St. Mary’s here in town (we went to Mass a couple weeks back) talked about the Bishop’s total willingness to let God’s “will be done” and open himself up to suffering. The bishop’s battle with lung cancer coincides with my grandmother’s battle with lung cancer as of late. After tons of chemo, radiation, and struggle my grandmother suffered a stroke and is now in the hospital trying to recover. It’s horrible to watch. So I can empathize with the bishop’s family right now. God bless the bishop and Catholics of this diocese…👍

I heard this in mass today, it is very sad. I had the privilege of meeting him when I was in RCIA, and he was such a warm and friendly person. He would joke around and make people laugh, he would put you at ease.

We will miss him, God rest his soul.
