Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In the wake of the absolutely horrifying car bomb attack in Egypt yesterday, I would like to share with you some very strong and clear words from Bishop Suriel of the Coptic Orthodox Church, delivered at an ecumenical gathering in New York a few weeks ago in December. You can watch it on his blog here.
He has also issued a strong statement regarding yesterday’s attack, also accessible via his blog. Please read it, too.
It is important to spread such messages, in light of the seemingly endless persecution of Christians in the Middle East and the ineffectiveness of world governments to accurately see the reality of the situation in the Middle East. Today’s Egypt is tomorrow’s Melbourne, and it would be better to be honest about what we’re facing than denying reality and putting our fingers in our ears.
Note: The Arabic link exposes writings from a terrorist-populated internet forum with blanket threats against Coptic Churches around the world You may say, “So what, it’s the internet”, but apparently the bishops and priests in Australia are on alert because of some credible threats behind the posturing.
