Bishop w/ NCR Column

If you are familiar with the retired bishop whose homilies are regularly (weekly?) in the *National Catholic Reporter *, could you tell me from which dioceses he has been prohibited by the bishops/archbishops from celebrating Mass and/or speaking publicly?

If you can respond from personal experience, please share your story without naming names*.

If you can provide Internet links, please pm me. **Any mention of this person’s name will get the thread deleted, so please follow these guidelines!

He’s banned from speaking in the Diocese of Tucson, and his group is excommunicated in the Diocese of Lincoln.

Definitely not in Detroit, as he’s visiting a neighboring parish this week

Just a point. I think that the permission to say Mass is given actively. By that I mean that to say Mass, a priest (and this would include a visiting retired aux. bishop) needs permission from the local ordinary to say Mass within the diocesan boundries. So he might not be prohibited per se but still not have permission.

I think that information would not be public unless the retired aux Bishop chose to publish it himself. Even the “banning” from speaking was done quietly in order not to embarrass the retired bishop. But the group who had originally invited him made it a press release since it forwarded thier “poor me” agenda.

Update: I have learned that the Diocese of Kansas City/St. Joseph, MO, would not welcome his theology, so a large group of his supporters has (at least once, in 2006) had him speak at a Unitarian Universalist auditorium. The topic of one 2006 talk was “A Pastoral Response to Homosexuals” and, of course, expressed both complete acceptance of the lifestyle and support for active homosexuals who might seek leadership in the Church.
