”Were it possible, I’d be pleased to ordain women.”

**Note the opening words, “Were it possible.”

In other words, he’s saying it’s NOT possible.**
He does show that he is not in line with the Vatican and the rule for male priesthood. He is open to the idea of women priests…that’s obvious. This is not “legalese”…it is where he is coming from.

Boy is this a chestnut of an old thread!!! it was started in June of 2004.

Bishop Clark:
”Were it possible, I’d be pleased to ordain women.”.
Well, at least he recognizes that it’s just not possible.

This statement is in the same class as:

“Were it possible, I’d be pleased for 3 to be an even number”

I I have some ideas spinning in my mind about how we can get more Eucharistic Adoration around here, which I think is key. I’ve also been praying to Servant of God, Archbishop Fulton Sheen to help our diocese and pray for our Bishop. Fulton Sheen was bishop here for about 4 years, you would think we would hear more about him and his great teachings on Jesus Chirst, but no. I ask for anyone reading this for their prayers and to ask for the intercession of Archbishop Sheen.

Thanks and God bless!
:banghead:
I read a book by Bishop Sheen years ago and he said that a Holy Hour every day was at the very heart of his spirituality, and that he thought that every priest should make one. He was a great spiritual leader…👍

I think that it is important to pay attention to the words… here like anywhere else they mean something… he would be pleased to do it… but it isn’t possible. If God asked him to wear green shorts and nikes for Mass he would be pleased to do it, but it isn’t possible. Whatever God requires of us is what we are pleased to do. We cannot ordain women to the priesthood because God requires otherwise. Married men is something different, that’s discipline so he’s not speaking out of turn. We pray every day “Thy will be done” and the Bishop was merely reiterating that, so let’s not be too hard on him.
Very good point. So where does the poster get the poetic license to say that the Bishop would like to ordain women? This is how wars start.

”Were it possible, I’d be pleased to ordain women.”

Did you happen to catch that part of the quote? WERE IT POSSIBLE, I am sure MANY (MOST?) Catholic bishops would be pleased to ordain worthy and prepared individuals of either sex. But it’s not possible so the question is moot.

The OP should take caution in his wording…

All things in God’s time as His will be done.
We are on gods time and His will is being done…thats why there is no such thing as womens ordination.

Remember the paradoxical questions…“who created God?” “can god create a weight so heavy even he cannot lift?”

They are the same type of question as “can a Woman be ordained priest?”

Woman Priest is a non existance. oxymoron. Can a woman be a priest is no different than askng the question if god can create a circular triangle…it is a non-question.

Folks,

Why are we discussing FOUR YEAR OLD NEWS ???
I dunno. I just got here. I didn’t read all of the other posts or I probably would not have posted. Perhaps we should move on to another old post.🙂
