Washington D.C., Jun 30, 2015 / 03:20 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Looking forward to Pope Francis’ September visit to the U.S., the nation’s bishops were exuberant on Tuesday, as the itinerary for the apostolic voyage was released.
Fewer than three months before the scheduled visit, Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, president of the U.S. bishops conference, called it a “source of joy and gratitude for U.S. Catholics” in a June 30 statement.
After visiting Cuba, the Pope will visit three major cities on the U.S. east coast – Washington, D.C., New York, and Philadelphia – and the respective bishops of those cities were indeed jubilant.

Washington, Philly, and New York – why is it that everyone believes that the entirety of the U.S. subsists in the East Coast?

I wonder if he is waiting to make some statements on same sex marriage for his visit to the US? Ireland USA ans Mexico just made same sex marriage legal and the Pope has yet to directly comment? He must be waiting for a reason…

He already has commented on this matter ages ago; “Who am I to judge?”

Indeed he has…

“The complementarity of man and woman…is at the root of marriage and family.”

“The first setting in which faith enlightens the human city is the family. I think first and foremost of the stable union of man and woman in marriage.”

“The family is experiencing a profound cultural crisis… Marriage now tends to be viewed as a form of mere emotional satisfaction that can be constructed in any way or modified at will. But…[as] the French bishops have taught, [marriage] is not born of loving sentiment, ephemeral by definition, but from the depth of the obligation assumed by the spouses who accept to enter a total communion of life"

Nice try…

I hope Pope Francis speaks as strongly on marriage when he visits the USA, as he did when visiting the Philipines earlier this year.

One of the really powerful witnesses to the Popes favour with God as His action man, is the reaction of the clergy around the world from parish Priests to Cardinals. He is so fearless and thumbs his nose at agenda driven protocols. He is becoming more and more like the flower that has sprung out of the soil prepared by Popes StJPII and Benedict and the joy and enthusiasm among the worlds Catholics is palpable.

👍

Let’s not forget his planned canonization of Fra. Junipero Serra while in the US… which won’t be occurring in the very state he helped build and is buried in. I mean, I’m sure there are plenty of schools, parks, and streets named for Fra. Serra in Philly, right? 😛

Although I do hope he has a profound impact in the US, I doubt it will, as a whole, the US is moving further and further away from God, and they seem to be quite proud of this. He will have to ‘talk tough’ to get past all this popular pop culture.

I don’t think it will have much of an impact. The mainstream media will spin anything he says to support anti Catholic positions/politicians and the priests/bishops will do what they’ve done for the last few decades and not pass on anything the Pope says to the people.

Bingo.

He’s very popular with secular people, and not because he challenges them to change their worldview.

I’d say most of us tend to discount the things he says that challenge out worldview. How many non-secular people are also unhappy with him because of his views on the economy, class, climate, etc?
