Hello everyone!

Can a Bishop participate in a TLM as a sub-deacon, a deacon, or even an acolyte? I know that a priest can do this but I know nothing of what the Bishop can do.

Pax Domini Nostri Jesu Christi!

I believe he can. Didn’t they do this with the Pope as celebrant before Vatican II?

Which I think would be a lot more normative than acting as lower clergy or even an acolyte.
As FYI - I’ve seen Archbishop Chaput set in choir for Good Friday (Ordinary Form). The Rector of the Cathedral was vested and led Good Friday. The Archbishop sat in his Catedra, in his Cassock with a kneeler placed in front of him.

I imagine a Bishop attending an Extraordinary Form Mass would do the same thing.

But I also think this might be why they don’t often attend unless they are the celebrant.
