In a document tentatively called “Happy Are Those Who Are Called To His Supper”, the US Bishops will tell politicians and others who do not accept Catholic teaching on homosexuality and abortion (and other matters of faith and morals) to refrain from presenting themselves for Communion. Otherwise, the may be refused!

The article on the link provided gives the details.

God Bless the Bishops! Pray for their continued strength and guidance.

A question which I directed initially to the Ask An Apologist forum without any response to date: if one is obliged to receive Holy Communion at least once during the Easter season, and yet is precluded from receiving Holy Communion because one in conscience takes issue with the Church on one or another issue–which takes precedence? Does one continue to abstain from communion unless and until one can prayerfully and sincerely embrace the Church’s position on whatever issue precludes one from the sacrament? Or does one confess one’s inability to change one’s opinion, in good conscience, and receive some sort of Easter ‘waiver’ that will allow one to fulfill the Easter obligation?

Thanks!

I’m not an appologist, but I would guess that if one is in a state of grave sin (contributing to a women’s “choice” organization for example) then one must NOT receive the Eucharist even at Easter until one intends to change their ways and beliefs. But, that factors in action. Couples who are not married in the Church for whatever reason and embrace the marital act (do not live as brother and sister) should never receive the Eucharist until their situation changes. I would venture to say that the same holds true for one who believes and LIVES their lives in a manner which is grave.

… if one is in a state of grave sin… then one must NOT receive the Eucharist … should never receive the Eucharist until their situation changes. …
ditto
if you are not "in communion with the church"you are to abstain, regardless of reason. I am not an apologist either
