Wow…that is really sick. I admit, I have watched South Park and laughed at times but talk about way over the top. What can we do to help?.

I am a great defender of South Park, but I admit, that episode was terrible. I won’t watch that episode again, but I think a lot of thier satire is very funny. Not to mention, they mock everything, it’s part of their schtick.

The creators of Southpark have obviously decided that it is OK to mock just about everything. That is between them and God.

The ones I have a problem with are the television studios who choose to broadcast such shows. I have decided to not watch programmes on the channel owned by the company that decided to broadcast that Southpark show, in defiance of the appeals made. I will also boycott the advertisers who bought time during that show.

For NZ information, those advertisers (passed on to me) are:
Bunnings Warehouse
McDonalds New Zealand (I’ll have to eat Wendys or KFC now)
Mazda New Zealand
Tip Top Ice Cream Co Ltd
The Warehouse (Oh bugger!)
Brother New Zealand
Carters

I am waiting for Hollywood and the MSM to spin the boycott as no different or even worse than the Muslim protests over the cartoons that have turned voilent.

CanWest responded to the protests by bringing forward the screening of the episode, from May 10 to Wednesday this week. According to Wednesday’s issue of the New Zealand Herald, the company informed the Catholic Church’s communications director, Lyndsay Freer, of the decision at 5 p.m. Tuesday. She was asked to comment on it for the 6 p.m. news bulletin on one of CanWest’s channels.

“Given that by far the majority of those involved in the debate have not had the opportunity to view the episode, we feel it is important to give the public of New Zealand that chance,” said Rick Friesen, chief operating officer of CanWest-owned TVWorks.

The Church has called for a boycott of the television station…
Read the entire article, Open Season on Christianity which gives an overview of a number of such episodes. A French paper portrayed a naked Jesus wearing a condom. Didn’t Jesus say he who isn’t ashamed to proclaim me to the world I will not be ashamed to proclaim to my Father in heaven. What is wrong with Christians? Does our laissez-faire attitude not proclaim to the world that we are ashamed of Jesus when we will not defend neither him, his church nor his mother? :banghead:

It should be banned!
No, it shouldn’t. Freedom of thought and freedom of expression are important values in the Western world. If we give those up, we’re well on our way to becoming like Iran or Saudi Arabia.

May I ask: if it was a joke at the expense of Buddhism, would it be equally sick?

If you are a public organization, you open yourself up for scrutiny and satire.
