Why bishops wear hats on their heads during the Holy Mass while the scipture prevents men from putting anything on head ,only women alowed to cover their heads,thank you.

Wearing headgear or not wearing headgear is a custom, as St. Paul says about women not covering their heads, “We have no such custom.” Customs change from time to time and from people to people.

Notice that they remove them for the Consecration of the Most Holy Eucharist WHY

BY God the Holy Spirit through our bishops and priest.

The “hats” are worn to IDENTIFY them as BISHOPS; direct successors of the Apostles.

Here’s the whys and wherefores. Priests, bishops, popes, etc. all had special headgear in the old days which they would wear most of the time, including in church. This was a sign of their authority. When they were at Mass, whenever it got to be time to bow their heads or do similar reverential postures, they would take off their headgear to show greater reverence – ie, doffing their authority. (Similar to the part in the Book of Revelation when people throw down their crowns before God.)

If you go to an EF Mass or a Mass with a bishop or pope, you see this still happening.

There was also a practical side – guys with tonsured heads who don’t wear hoods, or old guys with bald heads,could get cold very easily in your drafty, unheated church in the Middle Ages. Headgear starts to sound very comfy.

In the Bible verse, a head covering refers to something similar to what the Blessed-Virgin Mary wears in her pictures (a kind of a shawl). A zucchetto/skullcap or mitre does not go against what St Paul says in the Bible. It does not cover your head but, rather, sits on top of your head.

I’m guessing you’re referring to a zucchetto. They aren’t worn during the celebration of the Eucharist.

Not a lot of people know this, but priests and deacons can wear zucchettos too, even though they rarely ever do. Priests wear black ones, bishops purple, cardinals red, and the Pope white.

Also, the Pope can wear any color zucchetto he wants, but he normally wears white, to identify his Papacy.
