Blasphemous "black mass" on August 15th

You are correct, he is doing something. But how sad that he is participating in an interreligious service. On the Feast of the Blessed Mother’s Assumption he goes to pray with those who do not honor Mary as they should (if they did, they’d be Catholic). Would it not have been better to proclaim our love for the Blessed Mother by celebrating a public Mass, the ultimate Sacrifice in reparation for a sacrilegious ceremony and altar?

I would assume he is saying a public Mass that day. Likely the intentions will include this.

An interreligious service is important, though not a substitute for the public Mass he is certainly offering.

The government, media, and other parts of our anti-Christian society are hostile to other Christians, including evangelicals. Our struggle is for the most part their struggle, too. Protestants certainly honor Mary far more than the organizers of this blasphemy. We need to join forces with those who defend prolife, sanctity of marriage, and religious liberty. Joint prayer is part of that.

I checked the article about the “black mass”…seems it has sold out all the 88 seats…definitely not a huge event…they’re probably after the publicity which they are surely getting…what is more intriguing is why these Satanists have to parody the Catholic mass…why not a Protestant communion service…maybe it’s because the one they worship…Satan…knows that at the Catholic mass Jesus Christ is truly present…body…blood…soul…and divinity…and those poor souls have been deceived…they really need our prayers to save them from eternal damnation…without question

I don’t think the Church opposes religious liberty, she generally supports it. I’m guessing the Pope was referring to absolute and unlimited religious liberty, which the Church does not support. After all, all human liberty has its limitations.

I would note that the Catechism of the Catholic Church in paragraph 821 talks about prayer in common and collaboration when talking about our separated brethren… It cites Unitatis Redintegratio (vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decree_19641121_unitatis-redintegratio_en.html) which states in Chapter I, 4,

The term “ecumenical movement” indicates the initiatives and activities planned and undertaken, according to the various needs of the Church and as opportunities offer, to promote Christian unity. These are: first, every effort to avoid expressions, judgments and actions which do not represent the condition of our separated brethren with truth and fairness and so make mutual relations with them more difficult; then, “dialogue” between competent experts from different Churches and Communities. At these meetings, which are organized in a religious spirit, each explains the teaching of his Communion in greater depth and brings out clearly its distinctive features. In such dialogue, everyone gains a truer knowledge and more just appreciation of the teaching and religious life of both Communions. My point was more concerned with the interreligious prayer service which no pope or council allowed prior to the 1960’s (just as the concept of religious liberty prior to the 1960’s was always understood to mean that all religions are equal and Christ’s Church is just as good as a Baptist church or Methodist church, etc. This is still the real ideal of religious liberty. If religions are equal, then we cannot suppress religions, i.e. error. The logical consequences of religious liberty is the denial of the Social Kingship of Jesus Christ).

Let us pray to Mary help of Christians in reparation for today’s blasphemy, and let us also continue to pray for the Reign of Christ the King to return. True liberty is to follow the Catholic Church, because then we are freed from the bonds of sin and the errors of a false religious unity that pervades our world.

I think Pilate said it more succinctly: “What is truth?”

The Catholic Church has the truth, “and the truth shall set you free”. John 8:32

There is no compromise with truth. No discussion needed. All people are called to Christ’s Church. Yes, dialogue is important, if in all charity, the end is conversion to the Catholic Church. There is no other need for knowledge other than the truth which leads to the salvation of souls.

It is 2016. Praying together with other Christians is common. Recent popes have done it.
Even prior to the 1960s, some limited kinds of common prayer happened at public events; (a priest would offer a prayer, then a Protestant minister would pray also).
Illicit Masses, such as the one reportedly offered by SSPX, were condemned before the 1960s, and condemned since.
The thread is about the blasphemous black mass, not about Vatican II or ecumenism. Start another thread if that is your main concern.

Does anyone have suggestions for possible action by laity, now that it is the day after?
I find the media and politicians constantly talk about diversity, or opposing any kind of hate, but are silent when Catholics are bashed - or even join in the bashing. How can we point out their hypocrisy in a way that will make a change?
