I am having a disagreement with someone and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts. I think that if you find a blasphemous joke funny that in itself is a sin of blasphemy. My friend thinks I am taking it to far and that its sinful if you don’t fight the urge to laugh but not blasphemous. I admit I could be wrong its just my opinion but to find something disrespectful to God funny seems pretty disrespectful itself. Any comments?

I don’t know, but I think that God only can judge the heart of such a person.

I do think that if a person laughs as a knee-jerk reaction, seeing the humor but really not wanting to offend God in the core of one’s soul, I think this would be excused by His Mercy. However, if one were to repeat the joke to others, really aware and believing that there is a possibility that God could be blasphemed…I would think this could be a serious matter, putting one’s own soul (and the soul’s of others) in jeopardy.

Peace and Blessings,
Terrysa

I think finding a joke funny is not the sin because it’s sort of like being tickled except it’s the mind being tickled - you can’t help laughing either way.

The sin will in the attentive listening to the blasphemous joke, and more so by passing it on because then it involves two or more people then.

These days if I find out that a blasphemous joke is being told I will say that I am not interested in such humour because of my beliefs if it’s done one to one. If it’s in a group I walk away or turn my attention to something else - or mentally do the fingers in the ear holes and call out ‘lalalala’ type of thing… which takes practise;).
