Blasphemy?

We all know what Blasphemy is, but can anyone tell me any examples of how one actually does it?

We are told that Blashpemy against the Holy Spirit is one sin that cannot be forgiven in this age or the one to come.

If one speaks against the Catholic Church is that blashpemy? Or does one have to speak against the Church knowing full aware that it is the true Church of Jesus Christ?

I was once told that knowone has actually commited this sin, could this be true?

blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is refusal to repent and accept forgiveness for one’s sins. There are threads on this question, on AAA and other forums. Blasphemy is the sin which speaks against God and the Church, denies God and his Church, denies Christ and his efficacious sacrifice, denigrates religion, uses the name of God profanely, utters curses against God or against others. A Christian who becomes apostate blasphemes. I am sure there have been many people unfortunately who have committed this sin. Watch msm for any length of time and listen to the blasphemy against God and his gifts especially his gift of life.

Hello John Paul,

It is Mathew 12:22, where Jesus tells us that no one will be forgiven of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. The New American Bible titles this chapter “Blasphemy of the Pharisees”. I am not exactly sure where these titles come from. Are they titles from original scriptural writers or are they incerted by translators? Anyway the point is that those who titled this chapter in the (NAB) bible certianly indicate that the Pharisees actions, whom Jesus was making the stament for, were concidered blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. In light of this the statement that this sin has never been commited is not true. Jesus Himself seems to be pointing to men commiting this “unforgiveable” sin.

Prior to becoming Catholic, I fell into the fundamental error of our other Christian friends outside of our Church. I was anti-catholic, I was convinced that the Church was the anti christ church, we all know the garbage…

I found the Church, repented of my awful sin.

For the ones who continue to preach against the Church, consider themselves, Christian, but continue to attack the Church calling her the devil, and they do it until the last day, have they commited blasphemy?

I think its not accurate to describe the unforgiveable sin as “dying in unrepentant sin”. It is simply not what Jesus was referring to.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is attributing His actions to another, like the Pharisees did in calling Jesus a tool of Satan.

It is not impossible to commit such a sin. But it is still hard to do so. You’d have to be pretty far gone and seriously hate God.

May the Lord protect us from ever committing such a sin.
