I found this very interesting. It is an excerpt from The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Klemens Brentano as recieved in visions by Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich. Please read it.

It was made known to me that these apparitions were all those persons who in divers ways insult and outrage Jesus, really and truly present in the Holy Sacrament. I recognised among them all those who in any way profane the Blessed Eucharist. I beheld with horror all the outrages thus offered to our Lord, whether by neglect, irreverence, and omission of what was due to him; by open contempt, abuse, and the most awful sacrileges; by the worship of worldly idols; by spiritual darkness and false knowledge; or, finally, by error, incredulity, fanaticism, hatred, and open persecution. Among these men I saw many who were blind, paralysed, deaf, and dumb, and even children;—blind men who would not see the truth; paralytic men who would not advance, according to its directions, on the road leading to eternal life; deaf men who refused to listen to its warnings and threats; dumb men who would never use their voices in its defence; and, finally, children who were led astray by following parents and teachers filled with the love of the world and forgetfulness of God, who were fed on earthly luxuries, drunk with false wisdom, and loathing all that pertained to religion. Among the latter, the sight of whom grieved me especially, because Jesus so loved children,** I saw many irreverent, ill-behaved acolytes, who did not honour our Lord in the holy ceremonies in which they took a part. I beheld with terror that many priests, some of whom even fancied themselves full of faith and piety, also outraged Jesus in the Adorable Sacrament. I saw many who believed and taught the doctrine of the Real Presence, but did not sufficiently take it to heart, for they forgot and neglected the palace, throne, and seat of the Living God; that is to say, the church, the altar, the tabernacle, the chalice, the monstrance, the vases and ornaments; in one word, all that is used in his worship, or to adorn his house.**

Entire neglect reigned everywhere, all things were left to moulder away in dust and filth, and the worship of God was, if not inwardly profaned, at least outwardly dishonoured. Nor did this arise from real poverty, but from indifference, sloth, preoccupation of mind about vain earthly concerns, and often also from egotism and spiritual death; for I** saw neglect of this kind in churches the pastors and congregations of which were rich, or at least tolerably well off. I saw many others in which worldly, tasteless, unsuitable ornaments had replaced the magnificent adornments of a more pious age.**

She saw the Catholic Communities in my area, circa 2006.

(no kidding)

**I saw that often the poorest of men were better lodged in their cottages than the Master of heaven and earth in his churches. **Ah, how deeply did the inhospitality of men grieve Jesus, who had given himself to them to be their Food! Truly, there is no need to be rich in order to receive him who rewards a hundredfold the glass of cold water given to the thirsty; but how shameful is not our conduct when in giving drink to the Divine Lord, who thirsts for our souls, we give him corrupted water in a filthy glass! In consequence of all this neglect, I saw the weak scandalised, the Adorable Sacrament profaned, the churches deserted, and the priests despised. This state of impurity and negligence extended even to the souls of the faithful, who left the tabernacle of their hearts unprepared and uncleansed when Jesus was about to enter them, exactly the same as they left his tabernacle on the altar.

Were I to speak for an entire year, I could never detail all the insults offered to Jesus in the Adorable Sacrament which were made known to me in this way. I saw their authors assault Jesus in bands, and strike him with different arms, corresponding to their various offences. I saw irreverent Christians of all ages, careless or sacrilegious priests, crowds of tepid and unworthy communicants, wicked soldiers profaning the sacred vessels, and servants of the devil making use of the Holy Eucharist in the frightful mysteries of hellish worship. Among these bands I saw a great number of theologians, who had been drawn into heresy by their sins, attacking Jesus in the Holy Sacrament of his Church, and snatching out of his Heart, by their seductive words and promises, a number of souls for whom he had shed his blood. Ah! it was indeed an awful sight, for I saw the Church as the body of Christ; and all these bands of men, who were separating themselves from the Church, mangled and tore off whole pieces of his living flesh. Alas! he looked at them in the most touching manner, and lamented that they should thus cause their own eternal loss. He had given his own divine Self to us for our Food in the Holy Sacrament, in order to unite in one body—that of the Church, his Spouse— men who were to an infinite extent divided and separated from each other; and now he beheld himself torn and rent in twain in that very body; for his principal work of love, the Holy Communion, in which men should have been made wholly one, was become, by the malice of false teachers, the subject of separation.** I beheld whole nations thus snatched out of his bosom, and deprived of any participation in the treasure of graces left to the Church**. Finally, I saw all who were separated from the Church plunged into the depths of infidelity, superstition, heresy, and false worldly philosophy; and they gave vent to their fierce rage by joining together in large bodies to attack the Church, being urged on by the serpent which was disporting itself in the midst of them. Alas! it was as though Jesus himself had been torn in a thousand pieces!

Indeed! When I read this for the first time my mouth dropped open because this describes almost perfectly the “Catholic” Church in my area 😦
It’s scary.
We just have to have faith the Our Holy Father will right the wrongs.

Our Lord did give her a vision—and it has come to be. May our Lord be merciful–for what we have allowed to become of His Church.

It is quite sad to see that Blessed Anne’s vision has more meaning today then at any other point in time since her time. Look at what we have let Christ’s Church become- just look at our Mass! Modernism, relativism and many other heresies have spread into every corner of the Church.

Do your part and Jesus will do His…no need to worry…fight on!!

I agree.
We must ALL man up, and deal with it.
We must not be afraid to be Catholic.
We must all fight for the orthodoxy that is only right for God’s true church.

I read the passage, and I sat in my chair, my mind ticking off every abuse pertaining to the modern church.
I was disgusted.
Someone email it to the Holy Father. I’m sure he’s already read it (several times), but send it anyway.

“The doctrines of the Fathers are despised; apostolic traditions are set at nought; the devices of innovators are in vogue in the Churches; now men are rather contrivers of cunning systems than theologians; the wisdom of this world wins the highest prizes and has rejected the glory of the cross. Shepherds are banished, and in their places are introduced grievous wolves hurrying the flock of Christ. Houses of prayer have none to assemble in them; desert places are full of lamenting crowds. The elders lament when they compare the present with the past. The younger are yet more to be compassionated, for they do not know of what they have been deprived.”

That’s from St. Basil the Great talking about his own time in the 4th century. Sound familiar?

The fact is, the Church has been in perpetual crisis from the start. She has been in the midst of a great perpetual tempest. And popes and saints alike lament their time as the worst. And now it is our turn to do the same. Meditate on these two things and you will find comfort 🙂 :

This dream of St. John Bosco concerning the Two Pillars

And this passage from the Gospel according to St. Matthew, Chapter 8:

23 And when he entered into the boat, his disciples followed him: 24 And behold a great tempest arose in the sea, so that the boat was covered with waves, but he was asleep. 25 And they came to him, and awaked him, saying: Lord, save us, we perish. 26 And Jesus saith to them: Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith? Then rising up he commanded the winds, and the sea, and there came a great calm.

No, the Church is not always in a state of crisis. The Church has gone through some crisies but that is not the normal state of things. The quote you gave above came from the Arian crisis which is probably the second worst crisis the Church has ever faced - second only to the present crisis.

And, for our instruction, we should consider how the faithful Catholics dealth with the Arian crisis.

They dealt with it by fleeing the corrupt Churches and meeting in the desert. They did so because they would *“have nothing to do with the wicken Arian leaven”. *They realized that if they themselves took part in the corrupt Masses that they too would likely become corrupted. They would not place themselves in that danger, not even through so-called obedience; for it is never true obedience to place ones faith in danger, any more than it is to place oneself in the occaision of sin.

Therefore, they even followed people who had been “excommunicated” for not going along with the errors of that day. Athanasius, for example, had been banned from his diocese at least 4 times and excommunicated, yet he continued to say Mass for his followers.

Let’s consider some other quotes from the Catholics from that day who maintained the true faith in the midst of that crisis.

St. Basil: "The danger is not confined to one Church… This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of Godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat is now openly proposed as a reward for impiety; so that he whose blasphemies are the more shocking, is more eligible for the oversight of the people. Priestly gravity has perished; there are none left to feed the Lord’s flock with knowledge; ambitious men are ever spending, in purposes of self-indulgence and bribery, possessions which they hold in trust for the poor. The accurate observation of the canons are no more; there is no restraint upon sin. Unbelievers laugh at what they see, and the weak are unsettled; faith is doubtful, ignorance is poured over their souls, because the adulterators of the word in wickedness imitate the truth. Religious people keep silence, but every blaspheming tongue is let loose. Sacred things are profaned; those of the laity who are sound in faith avoid the places of worship, as schools of impiety, and raise their hands in solitude with groans and tears to the Lord in heaven. --Epistulae 92 (ca. 372)

St. Basil: "Matters have come to this pass: the people have left their houses of prayer and assembled in the deserts, – a pitiable sight; women and children, old men, and men otherwise inform, wretchedly faring in the open air, amid most profuse rains and snow-storms and winds and frosts of winter; and again in summer under a scorching sun. To this they submit because they will have no part of the wicked Arian leaven. --Epistulae 242 (376)

What happened during the Arian crisis is repeating itself today. The difference is that modernim has spread throughout the entire Church, whereas Arianism was not quite so universal.

Bishop Rudolph Graber, of Regensburg: “What happened over 1600 years ago is repeating itself today, but with two or three differences: Alexandria is today the whole universal Church, the stability of which is being shaken, and what was undertaken at that time by means of physical force and cruelty is now being transferred to a different level. Exile is replaced by banishment into silence of being ignored; killing, by assassination of character.”(Athanasius and the Church of Our Time, p. 23):

Many of the faithful during the Arian crisis, who would have nothing to do with the “wicken Arian leaven”, appeared to be in schism, but in reality they were not. It was not schismatic to refuse to take part in sacreligeous masses, or submit themselves to heretical sermons. The same is true today for those Traditional Catholics who are labeled “schismatics” for the same exact reason.

Let’s end with the letter of St. Athanasius to his followers (see next post)

**
Letter of St. Athanasius to His Flock:
May God console you!.. What saddens you … is the fact that others [Arians] have occupied the churches by violence, while **during this time you are on the outside. It is a fact that they have the premises – but you have the apostolic Faith. **They can occupy our churches, but they are outside the true Faith. You remain outside the places of worship, but the faith dwells within you. Let us consider: what is more important, the place or the Faith? The true Faith, obviously.

"Who has lost and who has won in the struggle – the one who keeps the buildings or the one who keeps the Faith? The true Faith, obviously.
That therefore the ordinances which have been preserved in the churches from old time until now may not be lost in our days,… rouse yourselves, brethren,… seeing them now seized upon by aliens.

"True, the premises are good when the Apostolic Faith is preached there; they are holy if everything takes place there in a holy way. You are the ones who are happy; you who remain within the Church by your Faith, who hold firmly to the foundations of the Faith which has come down to you from Apostolic Tradition. And if an execrable jealousy has tried
to shake it on a number of occasions, it has not succeeded. They are the ones who have broken away from it in the present crisis.

"No one, ever, will prevail against your Faith, Beloved Brothers. And we believe that God will give us our churches back some day. Thus, the more violently they try to occupy the places of worship, the more they separate themselves from the Church. They claim that they represent the Church; but in reality, they are the ones who are expelling themselves from it and going astray.

"Even if Catholics faithful to Tradition are reduced to a **
handful, they are the ones who are the true Church of Jesus Christ. (Apud Caillau and Guillou, Coll. Selecta Ss. Eccl. Patrum, vol. 32, pp. 411-412).

Let us consider the axample of those faithful Catholics who suffered through the Arian crisis. See what actions they took to maintain the faith in that crisis. I’m sure they were labeled “schismatics” for not attending Church at their local parish, but instead “assembling in the desert” as St. Basil wrote. They appeared to be on the outside, but in reality they were not.

So too today with those who are called names for not placing their faith in danger, and refusing have anything to do with “the wicken modernist leaven”.

I think that Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich’s visions can easily be applied to the wave of anti-clericalism of her day and especially that followed her. Take for example the Kulturkampf of Bismark.

And if it applied to the Church of her own time, how much more does it apply today? Just look at the threads concerning the halloween “masses” for starters.

I believe Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich was talking about in the Diocese of Orange, 2006. I’m not sure who the pastor is.
THIS MADE ME ANGRY!!! Watch this:

First of all, people were to come to Mass dressed in Halloween costumes. Secondly, the altar servers are dressed up. So are the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. Then the Pastor LEAVES before ending Mass and giving the final blessing, so that he can change into his Halloween costume. He then has the audacity to return dressed as BARNEY!!!

I just couldn’t believe this! This is the stuff of nightmares.

There is a video of the Sunday Mass and the Saturday Vigil, one just as bad as the other!

(I actually have nightmares about the Eucharist being profaned in varying ways. I won’t go into it here. Needless to say, had I dreamt this, I’d have awoken in a cold sweat and I’ve have prayed, “Please, God, let it NOT be so!”).

IN CONTRAST …

My own Parish is quite orthodox. We have a good, large group of core Catholics who are on fire for their faith.

Our Priests believe in the Real Presence. We have theologically solid homilies. Our Pastors add no “frills” to the Mass. They’re strickly by the book. They wear proper vestments — with no exceptions.

Laypeople have several different Adult Catholic Ed classes to choose from. We are preparing for the New Evangelization through education of the flock.

Also, our Diocesan Bishop, Robert Vasa, recently BANNED the promotion of Medjugorje on Church property, including prayer groups based on the Apparition, and written or oral promotion. Same goes for Anne the Lay Apostle. In fact, ALL unapproved Catholic mystics and apparitions are now forbidden from being promoted on Church property. This has sent a STRONG message! I’m proud of Bishop Vasa. He is just he best!

And with this, much unity has been restored. Our Bishop is so AWESOME!!! He also frequently visits our Parish and provides educational lectures. In fact, he travelled down here to give a lecture for the laypeople on Deus Caritus Est, Pope Benedict’s first Encyclical. Isn’t that just too cool???

I attended a lecture Bishop Vasa gave on the Sixth Commandment (You shall not commit adultery). The lecture was three hours long! It was so good!!!

So, not all of the Church is in chaos.

I present this as an example in contrast to the travesty going on in Orange County, where chaos reigns.

The solution to this problem is this: First, the Bishops need to lay down the law by defending the faith! Second, the Bishops need to educate the flock in matters of faith. Correct the flock, and then show them the truth as taught to us by Jesus and the Apostles.

This can all be turned around. We can turn Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich’s visions of Liturgical Abuses into visions of Roses falling from Heaven. The Church doesn’t have to fall into ruin. We can take action.

God Bless!

It is NOT isolated to that diocese or that church. There is another thread showing the still pictures of another holloween “mass” from another parish. My brother told me his former parish here in Ohio did it once. I’d bet there are more around the country. Add to this the liturgical dance masses, polka masses etc. This has been going on since about 1970… gee I wonder what happened in 1970 that could have caused all this…
