I got a Christmas card today from someone unexpected, but I figured “She must send a card to all her NFP couples, past and present” Surprise, surprise, there was a 3-page, handwritten note tucked inside!!! I only met with this lady once or twice for post-partum NFP instruction, but I see her and her DH at mass frequently. Parts of her note included:

My husband said to me: that girl has her act together, look at how nicely the children are dressed and they genuflect and bless themselves. And my husband does not give compliments freely. I only recently discovered that my daughter has stopped going to mass b/c it puts a ‘wedge’ in her relationship w/ her DH. Her children are 13 and almost 8. I pray that someday she will be like you.

Needless to say, I teared up. It breaks my heart that DH doesn’t go w/ us to mass and I can’t have my whole family with me on Sunday or that he doesn’t serve with me in our parish/school community. I laugh when she compliments me on the children’s clothing b/c my kiddos LOVE to dress up, so this isn’t too hard:P I love that even the simple things like genuflecting and blessing themselves are deemed praiseworthy to her - I consider these very basic practices. It was just nice to have the encouragement when so often I’m frustrated by disappointment or the kids are very simply driving me bonkers!

I think this is the best gift I’ll get this Christmas.
