Blessed John Henry Newman to be declared a saint

Does anyone know when the ceremony is likely to be held? I would really like to “tune in” prayerfully.

Yes, that’s him. I was so happy to hear this the other day I went right out to the Newman Center. Where no one seemed to be paying much attention to it, but at least they had a Mass that I could attend.

One of my atheist buddies in UK later told me that his workplace is in one of Newman’s old residences.

It’s interesting that the articles say the Anglicans are happy about this. They sure weren’t happy when he left their church to become Catholic. From what I have read, his entire family pretty much stopped speaking to him.

Great news. May others like him convert from the Anglican Church. We need great minds.

I’ve been waiting for him to be Canonized, just as I waited for Pope Paul VI as well as others yet to be Canonized.

@sj1611 saints are Canonized usually either in middle of May or middle of October (spring or fall). Here is a list of all saints Pope Francis has Canonized, you can see each falls within the same months, mainly middle of May and middle of October:

Therefore, most likely he will be Canonized this spring, middle of May or April but I do not know for certain

Oh, good. If I swim the Tiber, patron saint selection will be easy.

What a brilliant writer he was.

Maybe he will lead others to conversion.
Then we will have a convert from the Episcopal church - St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and a convert from the Anglican church who have been made saints.

I don’t know @sj1611 .

But this thought has just entered my mind .

Pope Benedict beatified Cardinal Newman here in England during his visit here .

It would be great if Cardinal Newman were canonized here in England by Pope Francis .

I know there is some confusion often in the USA because we have another major saint from USA who was a bishop called St. John Neumann. He also promoted Catholic education, although at the pre-college level. For many years I mixed up St. John Neumann and Bl. John Newman before I learned the difference.

I agree it would be wonderful if the canonisation could take place in England, however an Oratorian friend I spoke to believes it will take place in the Vatican (Bl. John Henry Newman was the founder of the first Oratory in England). Great reason for a trip to Rome though!
