On this day in 1927, Padre Miguel Pro was martyred during an anticlerical phase in Mexico’s revolution. He died, arms outstretched, shouting “VIVA CRISTO REY” “Long live Christ the King.”
Some may believe that persecution only happened in long-ago times or in far-off places with strange names; but our LORD’s honor roll of persecution extends not only to the 1900s, but to North America, in fact less than one driving day from US soil.
