What is it used for? I am a cradle Catholic, raised on the Southside of Chicago in a neighborhood where you could throw a stone in any direction and hit a Catholic church, Catholic schooled from kindergarten through 4th year of college, and until I came to these forums, I had never heard of blessed salt before.

It is used in the Western Church to confect Holy Water (a mixture of exorcised salt and water) and frequently (I don’t know if it still is) in baptisms, when the candidate is given “the salt of wisdom, that you may have a taste for divine things.”
