A native of Poland, Timothy Trojanowski entered the Conventual Franciscan Order at the age of twenty-two. He made his solemn profession on February 11, 1935, the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes. He was a friar of Niepokalanow, the “City of the Immaculate”, a friary founded and led by the future martyr Saint Maximilian Kolbe.
On September 19, 1939, the Nazis, having invaded Poland, arrested nearly all of the friars of Niepokalanow. They were subsequently released on December 8, 1939. When on February 17, 1941, the Nazis returned to Niepokalanow to re-arrest Father Kolbe, Brother Timothy was among the friars who watched in sorrow as the founder of their friary was taken away to the Auschwitz death camp.
Eight months later, on October 14, 1941, Brother Timothy was likewise arrested and sent by the Nazis to Auschwitz, two months after Father Kolbe’s martyrdom. Brother Timothy died in the camp on February 28, 1942, at the age of thirty-three.
