I know you can use rosaries, chaplets, statues, etc that have not been blessed, but can you use them and then get them blessed later? (i.e. if I’m using an unblessed rosary, can I go later to my priest and get it blessed?)

Also, would it be improper to get one of our deacons to bless something at the Bible Study he leads that I attend?

Thanks!

Sure, you can get them blessed later. And yes, a deacon can bless religious articles.

In fact, of the six rosaries in our house, only one is blessed, and that just got done this very morning (our 4 year old was insistant her get blessed. What the hey, it got her to sit nicely through daily Mass 😃 )

As for when, she had Father do it on the way out of Mass today. I’ve seen people bring things for Father to bless on Sundays after Mass- a friend of mine in my homeschool group talked about bringing a cardboard box full of bibles, rosaries, medals and statues for a “blessing en mass”, only to later realize she now had to properly dispose of the cardboard box, as it had been blessed, too!

Cheers,
C

Yes. Just wait until he’s not busy with something else, and ask him. It’s simply a matter of him holding the object, and saying a short prayer. I’m sure that my priest would bless an object even if we ran into him at the supermarket. 😃

Be careful. He may accidentally bless the shopping cart. 🙂

Dude, nothing would dress up my shabby Wal-Mart like a blessing or two! 😃 (they did get a whole new fleet of shopping carts the other day, and it is an improvement)

When I had the Deacon bless a few things during out RCIA retreat, I specifically moved the bag I carried them in away so it wouldn’t get blessed. Now I’ve realized that the bag that was holding the salt was blessed, so I’ll have to burn or bury it later! 😃

no - the blessing applies to what the deacon intends to bless. Boxes, bags and containers usually don’t count.

I’m bringing my rosary tonight to Bible Study and having our deacon bless it. Wish I had remembered my statute of Our Lady of Grace… oh well I’ll bring it later!
