It was suggested to me to have my crucifix blessed by my priest. What does that exactly do in spiritual sense? Does it make the crucifix 'Holy"?

Also does this apply to icons?

Is there a seperate time to do it? Invite the priest to your house and have it done there?

I called my local parish and they had me bring the crucifix to the Rectory and he will do it there.

It makes your crucifix a “sacramental.” If you pray with devotion before a blessed crucifix, venial sins may be remitted.

The blessing of religious articles takes place at my chapel every First Friday, after each mass. But a priest should be happy to bless something whenever he is asked or by special arrangement. Any religious image, medal, prayer beads etc. can be blessed. Also, beeswax candles are good to have blessed and kept at home for protection during illness or when one is near death (not to mention during the three days of darkness!).

It is the great chastisement, when 3/4 of the world’s population will be killed. It has been prophesied by many mystics throughout the centuries, most notably by St. Pio. One is not bound to believe it, but I’d rather be safe than sorry!

THE PROXIMATE SIGNS

Here are the proximate signs in their probable order of occurrence. This, to be sure, is only my own opinion, and I may be wrong for I am no prophet myself; but, after studying a large number of prophecies, this order appears to me to be the most likely:

Flouting of church laws, irreverence and immodesty in church, fall in attendance at church.
Lack of charity towards others, heartlessness, indifference, divisions, contentions, godlessness, pride in human knowledge.
Breakdown of family life: immorality, adultery, perversion of youth via the media (e.g. homosexuals giving lectures in schools), immodest fashions (e.g. mini-skirts, bikinis, see-throughs), people concerned only with eating, drinking, dancing and other pleasures.
Civil commotions, contempt for authority, downfall of governments, confusion in high places, corruption, coups d’etat, civil war, revolution. (The first four proximate signs have already come to pass, at least partly; for we are yet to see civil war and revolution in the West. But the sequence of events is not strictly chronological; there is room for some overlapping. Thus, the 5th proximate sign seems to have begun also.)
Floods and droughts, crop failures, unusual weather, tornadoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, famines, epidemics, unknown diseases (e.g. new strains of viruses).

THE WARNING

This will take place between the proximate and the immediate signs. It will be a supernatural occurrence.

During the Warning, everyone will be made aware of his/her own sinfulness, and many will wish to die, but the Warning itself will be completely harmless.

The Warning must be viewed as the last act of mercy from God, a final appeal to mankind to do penance before the three days of darkness and the destruction of three-quarters of the human race. At a time when the murder of unborn babies and the sin of Sodom and Lesbos have become respectable and sometimes legal, we should not wonder why God is going to punish mankind.

By that time, war and revolution will have already caused a high deathtoll, and Communism will be victorious, but all this will be as nothing compared with the deathtoll caused by the Three Days.

By this, it sounds like it’s coming.
It sounds terriable!

Alot of this also has to do with the message at Fatima. If you havent read up on Fatima it would be very beneficial if you will. Its very important to place blessed crucifixes upon your front and back doors and also Benedict medals with their exorcism prayers attached. To avoid any calamaties or disasters from falling upon ones house.

sacred heart fan…im one too. Also seems like you have been studying up on the prophecies…good. Very needed.

The only site I’ve seen linking St. Pio and the “three days” is the Our Lady of Bayside, which was condemned by the local bishop.

I wouldn’t worry too much about learning about this sort of thing MrJim - or at least learn about it from a reputable source as bpbasilphx points out. “Reputable source” doesn’t mean any old poster on CA forums 👍

As far as the list of signs goes, they have all been present (in different forms and to different degrees) pretty much throughout Church history. Flouting of Church laws. lack of charity, civil commotions, hedonism, drought and famine, disease etc. Who’s to say these things are more present in our times? It’s all a bit vague. (Communism being victorious, for example - unlikely, isn’t it?)

Messages from mystics need careful discernment; we need to trust in God and in the Church and think with the Church on things like this, not get caught up in lurid visions. (Here, of course, I’m not talking about any one person in particular - on these forums or anywhere - getting caught up.)

I agree that it’s important to read about Fatima. I disagree that it’s “very important to place crucifixes upon your front and back doors…”. That’s something which may or may not be important depending on one’s own temperament and spirituality. To say that doing this will mean that a person will “avoid any calamities or disasters”, just like that, is perhaps bordering on superstition. I wonder if a better way of encouraging use of sacramentals might be to say something like, “Placing crucifixes on your door will help you to remember Christ’s love for you and his presence in your life, and that will help you cope with the inevitable troubles in your life.”

Peace.

I think some of you are getting away from my original post. While discussing the destruction of 3/4 of the population is a valid one, it is not what I wanted to discuss nor is answering my question.

oops sorry! Well yes after the priest blesses a crucifix, candle, picture, etc. it becomes a sacremental and therefore a Holy object. Take Holy Water for example. But take some of the other posters advice and listen to the Fatima message and hang them above your doors.
