It was suggested to me to have my crucifix blessed by my priest. What does that exactly do in spiritual sense? Does it make the crucifix 'Holy"?
Also does this apply to icons? It was suggested to me to have my crucifix blessed by my priest. What does that exactly do in spiritual sense? Does it make the crucifix 'Holy"?
I called my local parish and they had me bring the crucifix to the Rectory and he will do it there. Also does this apply to icons?
Is there a seperate time to do it? Invite the priest to your house and have it done there?
It makes your crucifix a “sacramental.” If you pray with devotion before a blessed crucifix, venial sins may be remitted. It was suggested to me to have my crucifix blessed by my priest. What does that exactly do in spiritual sense? Does it make the crucifix 'Holy"?
The blessing of religious articles takes place at my chapel every First Friday, after each mass. But a priest should be happy to bless something whenever he is asked or by special arrangement. Any religious image, medal, prayer beads etc. can be blessed. Also, beeswax candles are good to have blessed and kept at home for protection during illness or when one is near death (not to mention during the three days of darkness!).Also does this apply to icons?

It is the great chastisement, when 3/4 of the world’s population will be killed. It has been prophesied by many mystics throughout the centuries, most notably by St. Pio. One is not bound to believe it, but I’d rather be safe than sorry! What is the three days of darkness?

fun reading here
I agree that it’s important to read about Fatima. I disagree that it’s “very important to place crucifixes upon your front and back doors…”. That’s something which may or may not be important depending on one’s own temperament and spirituality. To say that doing this will mean that a person will “avoid any calamities or disasters”, just like that, is perhaps bordering on superstition. I wonder if a better way of encouraging use of sacramentals might be to say something like, “Placing crucifixes on your door will help you to remember Christ’s love for you and his presence in your life, and that will help you cope with the inevitable troubles in your life.”Alot of this also has to do with the message at Fatima. If you havent read up on Fatima it would be very beneficial if you will. Its very important to place blessed crucifixes upon your front and back doors and also Benedict medals with their exorcism prayers attached. To avoid any calamaties or disasters from falling upon ones house.
sacred heart fan…im one too. Also seems like you have been studying up on the prophecies…good. Very needed.
oops sorry! Well yes after the priest blesses a crucifix, candle, picture, etc. it becomes a sacremental and therefore a Holy object. Take Holy Water for example. But take some of the other posters advice and listen to the Fatima message and hang them above your doors.I think some of you are getting away from my original post. While discussing the destruction of 3/4 of the population is a valid one, it is not what I wanted to discuss nor is answering my question.
