Hi, If a priest comes out to bless a house, what is proper, dinner, a stipend, thanks, a beer? Thanks.

We had a dinner with our family/friends…so our Priest had dinner and maybe a beer…I think it was a glass of wine actually :)…

People in my parish will usually request a house blessing in the form of a dinner invitation, at which alcoholic beverages may or may not be served, according to the preferences of the family or the priest (some of whom do not drink). I have not heard of anyone giving a stipend to the priest as one might for a wedding or funeral.

no money is required. we do not charge for services.
if you feel you want to donate money to your church that is fine.

Thank you for letting me know. Will do the best I can with what is availible.

We had a priest friend come and bless our house right shortly after we purchased it (but before we moved in).

Dinner was not involved, but we did have a campfire in the backyard firepit afterward: I believe a respectable quantity of marshmellows and smores were consumed ( the kids even had some too ;))

He did a a GREAT job. He put on his cassock, stole and biretta. The house was excercised. All the rooms (even the closets) were blessed with Holy Water, incense and a relic of the True Cross. All the door frames ( inside and out) were blessed with holy oil, and blessed salt was sprinkled around the house and at the four corners of the property.

All that was left was to have an Apostle buried under the dining room table and the place would be just as holy as St. Peters 👍

We have had our pastor over a few times as well. Each time, he brings a sprinkler and blesses the house ( letting us know that ‘a little more won’t hurt’ :D)

I had similar thoughts. My priest is going to come out to the airport to bless my airplane. If the weather is good, we’ll go flying afterwards. 😃 I’ll offer to take him to breakfast on our way back to the church.

Hmmm…I don’t think the airplane needs an exorcism. Then again, maybe those bounced landings weren’t my fault after all  .

This is nearly a 911 call for him to come out and I’m not prepared. Because of his busy schedule, running 3 parish’s by himself, it is almost too much to ask. Because of the situation, there is going to be 45minutes to an hour notice, which is fine with me, but cordialness may go out the window at 11:00pm if that is what happens, lol. He’s a great priest and knows me well so if I give him a baked potatoe, he may understand. Thank you all for the help.
