Blessing Hands used by parishioners

During a recent Baptism, the Priest, when blessing the water, invite the congregation to “put out their blessing hands” as he performed the blessing. It seemed in appropriate to me. Has anyone else seen this, and is it acceptable?

Has anyone else seen this, and is it acceptable?

I saw it growing up in the 90s. I thought this kind of thing had died out. It is not acceptable. The rubrics of the Mass say that the people should not perform gestures proper to the priest.

Happened at my confirmation and other times in the parish I used to go to. I always refrained as I didn’t find it appropriate.

Unfortunately, I still see it at some parishes in my Diocese. I don’t participate it.
