I am a Catholic Slaughter man, I am thinking about having the animals blessed prior to slaughter for consumption of Catholics.
My question is, would this be something that would interest the public?

Most Catholics ask God to bless their food right before they eat it (at least they should). So unless you get a full-time priest to become part of the company to bless the animals, this might be unnecessary.

How about a prayer of thanksgiving and an acknowledgement that a creature of God is losing its life for our sake?

Blessings don’t transfer once sold, so a blessing over an animal that is about to be butchered and go to the meat market, while kind, would be useless to a Catholic.

A real blessing is not to kill. We do not need meat and slaughtering is inherently violent and sinful

You are at odds with God then. God allows us to eat meat and I eat many kinds of meat. I am particularly fond of a big juicy steak. I will never give up meat and that is okay with God!

Fish in nets usually die from lack of oxygen ,could be slow or fast 🤔
I’ve been in very traditional poorer countries where roosters have been tethered by the foot near the fire they are going to be cooked on.That is just part of life, and probably very similar to how it was in Jesus time.
God bless.

Yes, it is ok with God. But you are literally eating a dead animal Flesh. Rather repulsive to me.

A big T bone for me please @thistle,plenty of salt and black pepper .
OP @Butcher probably saying grace is enough as mentioned by someone else, but thanks for your interesting question,God bless.

Thank you.

Can I ask please how blessing a rosary is different from blessing some food, as in this case?
Well, a blessing would do the butcher good. It would not do the cow/pig/chicken/fish any good. It could not “transfer” to the customer.

A blessed rosary can’t be put on the market as “a blessed rosary” but when my priest went to Rome he had metals blessed for his congregation. I

Isn’t that part of the Jewish religion, to ensure the meat is Kosher?
Or maybe the meat processing plant has a Rabbi as a consultant.

Oh sure, it’s part of the Jewish religion–and part of Islam–as the meat-procuring process. That doesn’t change the Catholic take on blessings. I would think, however, a butcher that mindful and who asked for blessings as he worked would likely be more kind and ethical–something I would value.

But the meat being bless has no effect on Catholic’s consumption in the way it would for Jews and Moslems.

True.

There are Catholic prayers and blessings for farmers and their livestock.
Sadly, I forget the name of the book I saw it in, but it was pretty neat.

My father,a farmer often prayed to St Isadore about livestock.
It would be an interesting book Scarlett 🙂 I hope you remember.
