Blessings don’t transfer once sold, so a blessing over an animal that is about to be butchered and go to the meat market, while kind, would be useless to a Catholic.
This and just saying grace answer the OP’s question.
It’s probably best we don’t go off topic.God bless.

Why? You were talking about how much you like steak. I presume you mean beef steak. Is it so nonsensical to ask if you also enjoy eating other animals? Chickens, pigs, dogs, cats. What is your problem with the question?

Hello Shakuhachi, your post is tending towards being inciting and off topic.God bless.

You were simply trying to bait me and I won’t rise to that nonsense. Your implication is that if a person eats meat it must mean he is prepared to eat cats and dogs. Pretty stupid, isn’t it.

Why is it baiting or inciting or stupid to ask where you draw the line? How about Deer?
Insects are even becoming popular because of thier protein.

Why so sensitive and defensive?

You’re making all animals equal. They are not.

Deer, cow, lamb, rabbit, kangaroo, bison, and goat–all have one thing in common that they are herbivores.

Chickens, turkeys, fish and pigs prefer an herbivore diet but become omnivores when necessary.

Vultures, hawks, owls, dogs, wolves, alligators, lions, cats, sharks, bears–they are all carnivores.

Humans are omnivores and unless other options are not available tend to eat only herbivores and omnivores, since the dawn of time. Yes, some cultures veer from this norm, but for the most part we are simple omnivores.

But we still make choices of what we will eat among the three groups. Horses, for example are herbivores yet it seem unthinkable to eat them while cows, no problem. All because of taste?

You know very well what is meant when we say humans eat meat and that it does not mean we eat every type of meat in the universe. You are simply trying to be provocative.
If you don’t eat meat that’s your choice but don’t try to tell us we should not because God gave us the right to eat meat. If you disagree with God that is your problem, not ours!

I am not disputing that. Have I? What I am trying to do is initiate a discussion about more conscious eating. If that disturbs you, forget it. But why should it?

We don’t tend to eat animals which have other farm purposes. For instance, donkey or mule. Until about 40 years ago, chickens were also used for dual-purpose (eggs than meat). Eating a horse is “unthinkable” because it would be basically like using a car to hold soup.

Okay. We meat eaters CONSCIOUSLY eat meat and enjoy it.

Or perhaps horses have had more utility alive.

That is my point. Maybe they do. And yet you say it is “stupid” to consider the question.

Duh. That’s what I said.
But why only some particular meat and not others.
The cleanliness and diet of the animal, what other things the animal can aid us with, how easy it is to prepare the animal.

We wouldn’t really think of eating whale today, not because of social norms but because it is far easier to get meat in a more reasonable way and we don’t need the bones and blubber and all the other things that come with harvesting the whale would be wasted. Plainly put, it’s not worth the effort.

All of our food, especially fruit, vegetables, and legumes have been selectively bred for taste.

It is “stupid” to talk about it. I also don’t know why you took the thread off topic unless it was just for baiting purposes!
