I was wondering if your parish is following the custom of encouraging home blessings this Epiphany time?

It seems such a lovely custom. If you do it - how is it done in your location?

No, but they do it at Mother Angelicas Monastery & Shrine in Hanceville Alabama, which is where I saw it for the first time. Pretty cool.

We always have had blessed chalk at our parish before, but it wasn’t there today. 🤷

I wish I had thought of it when I decided I was going to sleep in today. I’ll have to go to a late Mass at another parish which probably won’t have any blessed chalk. 😦 We do it like this: C20M15B

And you can’t bring a piece and ask to have it blessed?
I don’t think the chalk in itself is a sacramental per se.
It’s the prayers that bless the house, not the chalk. The chalk is for marking, Or else the marks wouldn’t matter, no?

Actually I still have some of the chalk left from last year. 🤷

Yes we do this in our parish. 20+C+M+B+15. They had blessed chalk for us - but I forgot to pick some up!!! 😦

Don’t forget the Holy water as you pray at each door.

Oh my, I didn’t know about using blessed chalk! My husband and I simply followed the prayers and holy water blessings that were given in our church bulletin. We used our own chalk. And I add that it was mighty nice of my husband to participate in this with me, since he’s not Catholic and has no immediate plans to become so. He even chalked the marks above the door. ❤️

how sweet. 🙂 God bless you both.

Anyone have instructions? :o Perhaps the bulletin at the parish I’m about to leave for will say something or maybe they’ll even have chalk. I’m taking the opportunity to check out St. Luke’s for Mass tonight, a parish I’ve never been to before.

No worries, as far as I have been able to determine blessing the chalk is optional.
In our Parish a blessing kit is available to anyone that requests it. Other than the Holy water I do not believe any blessing is given the chalk.

Yes, we are encouraged to do this at our parish. The priest blessed the chalk today and made it available for people to take home.

Yes, we were given the prayer on a piece of paper, and the chalk was taped inside and it was all rolled up in a nice little scroll.

Our parish doesn’t emphasize Epiphany house blessings. I think our priest was a bit surprised when I presented a piece of chalk and asked him to bless it after the January 1st Mass. But it was a pleasant surprise. 🙂 If anyone has little ones at home, I really recommend this blessing! It’s a very special family event and my 6-year-old loves it.

Thanks; came in useful along with my blessed chalk from last year.
