hi, i just have a quick question. my mother wants to get her dog blessed, but she doesnt know about any catholic churches in the area that are doing it. but there is a lutheran church close by. would it be a sin for a catholic to get his/ her pet blessed at a lutheran church?
and would the blessing have any effect?

Dear Someperson555–

I’m not Catholic, but I’ve had my horse blessed by a priest (but I think he was friends with someone at the farm where I board). He came to the farm and anyone who wanted it, brought their horses out to be sprinkled and blessed. I thought it was lovely! 🙂

The question is, is her dog Catholic?😃
LOL!
it seems he is, since she told me when she was trying to bring him to the lutheran church he kept pulling away 😃
so she didnt get the dog blessed in the lutheran church.

i was just wondering, can a priest bless a pet any day of the year?

Yes, I think so at least I requested having my dog at the airport blessed by a Cardinal I believe. He had a younger Priest with him and he was also the Cardinals (?) interpreter and he was actually quite please to bless my Italian Greyhound “Gordon’s It’s Hard to be Humble” aka Spats. We all had quite a chuckle as I explained that Spats had a bit of the devil in him. He said, “Then he must be blessed” (through the interpreter).

So, Yes I just requested it and he gladly blessed my dog.
