Once I visited a Benedictine monastery and there bought a Benedictine medal (an official one from Monte Cassino, Italy). I always carry it around with me. However I never bothered to ask whether it was blessed. In fact I did not know at the time they were supposed to be. I assume that it wasn’t blessed because the monk removed it from its new packaging.
Now I have read here that there is a special formula to bless the medal. The problem is that I do not not live in a very orthodox area, I am pretty sure that no priest in my province knows how to bless it. Now, I cannot find an official Dutch translation of the blessing, and giving a priest the Latin version of the formula would be awkward because he wouldn’t know what he is saying. So can I just ask a priest to bless the medal normally, as he would say a rosary. Would it count as a correct blessing of the medal? Or should I just ask a local priest to say the Latin formula?
