Blessing of Throats

My daughter’s swollen tonsils returned to normal after the blessing and my wife’s headache she had had for almost a month went – and stayed – away. After Mass, the pastor summoned me into the sacristy so that he could receive the blessing from me. I think this is the first time in twenty years as a deacon that I only blessed one throat.

Oh, Extraordinary Ministers may use the formula of blessing without using the Sign of the Cross. The picture shows a laying on of hands gesture. This gesture, wildly popular for everything under the sun, really should not be used. It has created confusion when used, for example, to install lay pastoral ministers, pastoral associates, etc. because it is used for Holy Orders.

On First Friday, the feast of Saint Blaise, the church was quite crowded. We all had our throats blessed individually.

On Sunday, after the Masses all three priests were blessing throats again.

Our Church has a treasure of sacramentals, and this is one of them!

Had mine blessed twice.
Went for mass (FirstFriday) at the chapel on my lunch hour and got a blessing.
Decided must get DS’s throat blessed so after swimming went to church (a bit late for mass) but we got our throats blessed.

When we were kids in our parish (in India) there was an older priest that always blessed with lit candles. I was always worried about getting my hair burned.

Is there any reason besides the personal preference of the priest that one could not get their throat blessed twice. I had my throat blessed with my choir on Thursday night (Because I misunderstood an answer question). The next morning when I came up to 6:30 AM with my daughter I wanted to get it blessed again (only because my throat was sore), but I was refused.

I did call Father to try to explain myself, but so far no return phone call. I’m afraid if call again I will really look crazy.
