I have two Rosaries that I use to pray with. one in my work truck and one on my dresser at home, not to mention countless others throughout my home and vehicles. However I have never had them or my St.Bennedict medal “blessed”

Would the absence of the blessing have any bearing on the effects of our prayers.
Also would praying along without a Rosary be just as effective?

Blessed rosaries become sacramentals. One does not need a sacramental to make one’s prayer efficacious. The church teaches that using sacramentals in prayer can make them more efficacious.

I have had my rosaries blessed, as well as my medals, for the most part. I do prefer praying with my blessed rosary. I have also touched my medals and main rosary to many relics of the saints and such; I just prefer to pray with it, and like to remember to ask the Saints whose relics were touched to pray with me.

I don’t think your prayers ‘count more’ with or without it being blessed.

I am not sure if my Rosaries have been blessed, unless they were blessed before being given to me as gifts. Whenever I enter a Church, if I’m wearing my medals, after I make The Sign of The Cross with Holy Water I dab any leftover water from my fingers onto my medals. I don’t think this would officially bless them in any way, but since the medals are on me, it’s a little thing I do before I go into the Church and pray to those Saints.

My favorite rosary was a gift from my grandma, and it belonged to her and to her mother before her, so it was blessed a long time ago. I was always taught that you can pray with a rosary that hasn’t been blessed, but that it makes your prayers more pleasing to God if you do have it blessed.

You can gain certain indulgences through using a blessed Rosary. You can gain a partial indulgence through using a Rosary blessed by a priest. And, you can gain a plenary indulgence on the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul if it is blessed by a bishop. Plus, you receive certain graces by using a sacramental.

However, your prayer is not made more acceptable to God by using a blessed Rosary.

I see this is an older thread but my parish priest and I were just talking about the St. Benedict Medal tonight after mass. I’ve noticed the difference in my feeling better at ease wearing it. It’s been blessed though is yet to have the excorcism placed on it (the text of which a fellow forum member incidentally found for me here the other day). I understand the letters on the St. Benedict medal to be the first leters of a powerful old prayer to protect against Satan. Anyways, I read something on another thread a while ago. Someone asked their priest to bless a candle for them and the preist asked if they had used it in prayer already. The person had so the preist told them there was nothing more he could do; it had already been blessed. Still, it’s something worth asking your own priest about.
