I have several things I want blessed (my rosary, crucifix, etc.) but I’m uncomfortable approaching our priest about it. I really don’t know if he will ridicule me or not. In the past I’ve had a desire to use a scapular and had the same feeling and never approached him about it. I don’t think I should feel this way but he gives me the impression that he is very liberal and would tell me that the Catholics don’t do these things anymore. Once in confession I got emotional when I thought of how I had offended God and this priest told me to seek counceling. Have any of you felt this way?

Hi,

And welcome to the forum

Priests are human—I think sometimes they don’t know how to handle a situation, so they suggest a counselor (The basic rule is if you are depressed, you need counseling, and if you cry, they think you are depressed) The rule is if you cry more than ususl, and what is usual?—so we are back to square 1.

Ask the Priest to bless your religious items—I hope he doesn’t ridicule you, and I doubt he will, but if he does, he is wrong. Is there another priest in your parish, or another Parish nearby?
