Maybe this question has been asked before. And I hope it’s not a dumb question. :o But, a post in the Spirituality Forum… started me wondering.

Does anyone know… if you carry unblessed rosary beads (or scapulars, etc.) to Mass with you… will the rosary obtain the blessing of the priest, too? You know, the final blessing of the priest… just before the words “the Mass is ended… etc.”

I’m just curious. Thanks all! 🙂

I have been to First Communion Masses where the priest has everyone get out their objects to be blessed and then does one “blessing of the objects”, so I am assuming that the final blessing applies to people and not rosaries and medals.

That being said, I have never had a problem asking a priest after Mass to bless a rosary, etc. It just takes a few seconds.

A few months ago, we went to visit a former pastor and took him to lunch. I had several items in my car that I had recently purchased and asked him to bless them, which he did as we were driving. I wonder if the blessing extended to my vehicle?? Probably not.

Thanks acadian. I appreciate your (name removed by moderator)ut. I guess I’m wondering… because I typically have LOTS of items to be blessed (I give them away, to family… friends, etc.)… and I sometimes feel like I’m being a pest. 😊 I ask for lots of blessings, and I guess I was hoping for an easier way to accomplish the task. 🤷 lol.

Anyone else know if items receive the final blessing at Mass? Or peoples only? 😉

You have to ask for the blessing separately for objects to be used as sacramentals. Just give your Priest a small gift in return with a card expressing your appreciation for his time.

No because the priest does not intend to bless objects at the final Blessing of Mass. Even at papal Masses the Mass ends with the normal final Blessing and then a special blessing of the pope is given while holding objects for the Blessing of them.
