"Blessings" from a female distributer of Holy Communion?

At Holy Mass today, I sat in the cry room with my nursling and my seven yr old boy. A female distributer came in to give Holy Communion out, (I did not recieve, having missed confession) but she came up and made the sign of the cross on my son’s head and cooed “God bless you”! I resent the presence of these lay people on the altar anyway, but acting like they are giving blessings is just to much. What do you say?
